The Olympics is all set to take stage on August 5. As the mega event waits to be a spectacle to the world in Rio, IOC has made another exciting announcement - a new channel will be launched on August 21 after the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games Rio 2016.

The Olympic Channel platform will be available in the form of a mobile app for Android and iOS devices worldwide at http://www.olympicchannel.com. It will have on-demand content available across the web, mobile, tablet, and other connected devices.

Currently, fans and athletes can interact on the Olympic Channel’s newly launched social media handles on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. (@OlympicChannel) .

The channel will initially be offered in English, and in the future, the Olympic Channel has plans to develop localised versions of it after further developments with other Olympic stakeholders. The localised versions are expected to offer language specific user experiences on digital platforms further including linear TV programming options.

IOC President Thomas Bach said: “The launch of the Olympic Channel on August 21 is the start of an exciting new journey to connect the worldwide audience with the Olympic Movement all year round. Fans will be able to follow sports, athletes and the stories behind the Olympic Games. The Olympic Channel will inspire us all and reach out to new generations of athletes and fans.”

The free platform aims at providing original programming, live sports events, news and highlights through the year.

One of the basic aims of the channel is to connect with the youth and keep them engaged with content around the world to build an understanding, entertain and educate.

Another aim that IOC has is to provide a platform for the continuous exposure of Olympics based content beyond the Olympic Games period. It further looks to create anticipation among the users around the Olympics.

IOC wants to share its archives with the users in turn creating value and adding more content for the IOC archives.

The Olympics committee wants to constantly stay in touch with its users and spread the ideals of the Olympic Movement’s challenges in the current world.
