Mumbai:Saregama, one of the oldest media companies with the largest library of the Indian music, has decided to take the piracy and competition head on.

The company's answer is to offer more than 1.1 lakh songs for download from the Internet at a cheap Rs 2 per song.

The offer, which is available on songs in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi and Tamil, allows consumers to buy and download songs from the company's website, saregama.com, at Rs 2 for MP3 format and Rs 10 for a HD format.

This includes music from the likes of Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Asha Bhosle, Jagjit Singh, Mohd Rafi and more.

The volume game that the company has decided to play will also give a tough fight to music streaming websites like Hungama and Saavn.

Saregama's pricing is part of a strategic move to put music in its method.

"Piracy is the biggest threat to our music industry. Our research tells us that consumers are ready to choose legal copies over pirated ones, provided they are affordable and easy to buy," said Vikram Mehra, managing director, Saregama India.

He told ET that without any promotion, the page views on the website has increased by over two-and-a-half times, while sales of songs has gone up by 4 times
