Star India’s high-definition (HD) sports channels Star Sports Select HD1 and HD2, which will cater to international sporting events, are launching on 10 August.
The two HD channels will be home to international sports like Premier League, Bundesliga, Grand Slam Tennis and Formula 1.
International sports will be available on Star Sports’ standard definition (SD) channels up to 31 October, after which Star Sports HD channels will become the exclusive viewing destination.
With international sports moving exclusively to Star Sports Select HD channels, the network’s four SD and their mirror HD channels will air mass sports like cricket, hockey and local leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League, Indian Super League, Hockey India League and Premier Badminton League.
Star India’s sports channel count will increase to 10 with the launch of the two new HD channels.
Star currently owns and operates eight channels—Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and their respective HD versions. The broadcaster plans to offer an enhanced viewing experience that ensures more matches, increased behind-the-scenes access and in-depth analysis as part of its programming strategy for the HD channels.
The broadcaster will also increase the TV coverage for the Premier League to over 270 matches.
Additionally, Premier League and Bundesliga games as well as every Formula 1 races will be available on Star India’s video streaming platform Hotstar as part of the latter’s premium offering. Hotstar Premium will beam all 380 matches live.
