The Shounen Jump+ magazine announced what feels like ages ago back in February that the manga series Luger Code 1951 will be getting an anime adaptation that will land this fall. While we had a promotional video show up in March, it’s been pretty quiet ever since when it comes to the special. Now, Animax has revealed that the special is scheduled for an October 22nd, 2016 debut at 10pm JST and will include a short documentary on how the animation came together for it.
The manga comes from writer Haruto Haneki and is illustrated by Akira Akatsuki. It ran for four chapters as part of a special run. The property is one that was part of an Anime Scenario Awar d contest about creating something original and it getting an anime creation at a later date.
The anime adaptation is being produced by Studio Deen for fall broadcast on Animax. It’s being directed by Shinya Takahashi based on the script from Katsuhiko Takayama. Character designs are being handled by Hirofumi Morimoto. The first bit of casting was also revealed with Takuya Eguchi playing Alex Rossa.
Plot concept: The story centers around the young linguistic genius and university professor Testa. He is introduced by his senior, Sergeant Rossa, to the Allied Cryptanalysis Department. There, he is tasked to break the enemy werewolves’ code, which the werewolves are using to encrypt their radio transmissions. Testa is astounded, as the only sound the encrypted code produces is the howling of a wolf. His research yields no results, and he resolves to capture a live werewolf for better cryptanalysis. After exhausting all possible means, he finally finds a female werewolf, Yonaga.
