Star India has launched the high-definition (HD) version of its Telugu GEC Maa TV. Maa HD’s reference interconnection offer (RIO) rate is Rs 25.
As part of its promotional offer, Star will not charge subscription fee from distribution platforms for the channel until 31 July 2017.
Maa HD has launched on direct-to-home (DTH) platform Tata Sky and is available at Rs 45 for Tata Sky customers. With the latest addition, the total HD count on the platform has increased to 71.
Star India has also received licence to launch the HD version of Telugu movie channel Maa Movies. With the launch of Maa HD, Star’s HD bouquet has increased to 21 channels.
Earlier, it had launched four regional HD channels—Star Jalsha HD, Star Jalsha Movies HD, Star Pravah HD and Vijay HD.
The HD version of Asianet was launched in 2015. Of the 21 HD channels, six HD channels are in the sports genre.
Recently, Star had launched Star Sports Select HD1 and 2.
The two HD channels will be exclusive home of international sports like the EPL, Bundesliga, French Open and Wimbledon.
