Travelxp 4K signs multi-year deal with Eutelsat

One day ahead of the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show where Ultra HD is set to be a continuing hot trend, Eutelsat Communications has announced the launch Travelxp 4K at its popular Hotbird video neighbourhood. Travelxp 4K has concluded a multi-year contract with Eutelsat to leverage Hotbird’s market-leading penetration into cable and IPTV networks across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
Travelxp 4K is scheduled to start broadcasting this month. The channel has selected HEVC encoding with 10bits of colour depth (1 billion colours), at 50 frames per second.
“Travelxp 4K is all about bringing the world to homes in stunning resolution. 10 bit REC 2020 with HLG, HDR will make the viewing experience more immersive and vivid. It’s not just about more pixels in 4K but better pixels. We are proud to reinforce our partnership with Eutelsat and to benefit from their vast knowledge of the Ultra HD broadcasting chain. Joining the Hotbird neighbourhood and gaining access to a unique and ethnically diverse population pool is a natural step for us that will fast-track penetration of Travelxp 4K into homes across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East,” said Travelxp 4K CEO Prashant Chothani.
Available in seven languages, Travelxp 4K, features hundreds of hours of world class travel programs filmed all over the world.
The 4K channel follows the success of Travelxp HD, which offers 100 per cent originally-produced premium travel and lifestyle programming distributed to over 50 million homes globally. It will also broadcast in 10bit REC 2020 colour space using the new HDR (High Dynamic Range) standard developed by the BBC and NHK that creates richer and more dynamic images by increasing the contrast ratio between the lightest and darkest areas of the screen and expanding the volume of colours displayed. This standard uses HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) technology, enabling legacy Standard Dynamic (SDR) displays to decode the HDR standard.

Tata Sky tops in DTH industry with maximum number of channel & Services

Tata Sky, one of India's leading content distribution platform providing Pay TV and OTT services, has announced its offerings #MaxJingalala of 600 channels and services, which is the highest ever in the DTH sector.

Tata Sky today is a market leader in HD channels along with maximum number of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi and Assamese channels on offer.

As of December 2016, Tata Sky is offering an unprecedented 76 HD (highest in the industry) and 483 SD channels. The bouquet of 31 value added services, 15 SD and HD movie platforms specials, 9 exclusive +1 channel feeds, have been a clear differentiator and a key focus area for the brand.

Zee TV set to bring back sixth season of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs

Zee TV is all set to bring back the sixth season of its popular kids singing reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’, a sub-series of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.

The auditions for the show will commence from 9 January at New Delhi.

The singing reality show will be judged by popular singers Himesh Reshammiya, Neha Kakkar and Javed Ali.

Apart from Kakkar, Reshammiya and Ali have been part of the franchise. Reshammiya had won Sa ReGaMaPa Challenge series twice with his Rock Gharana. Ali had judged Lil Champs series in 2011 and hosted the original format Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2012.

The fifth season was broadcast in 2014-2015.

Following his appointment as Discovery South Asia VP and head of real world products, Sameer Rao is looking to expand the scope of the flagship Discovery Channel. The ‘Survival’ theme will get a boost with new verticals like adventure, military, weapons, crime and investigation. There will be more local content as well. “In 2017, we are bolstering the content slate for Discovery Channel with the incredibly successful ‘Survival’ theme, giving it an extra boost with new verticals like adventure, military, weapons, crime and investigation. And, of course, the content pipeline also includes big franchise hits such as ‘Running Wild with Bear Grylls S-3’, ‘Dual Survival’, ‘Naked & Afraid XL’, ‘Treasure Quest’ and more. We also propose to supercharge our flagships with large-scale local productions, refreshes and an amazing show line-up, featuring more local content than ever before,” Rao tells TelevisionPost.com. Talking about the year that has gone by, Rao notes that Discovery saw a lot of action in 2016 with documentaries like ‘Jawai: India’s Leopard Hills’, ‘Revealed: Siachen’, ‘India’s Paratroopers: Earning the Badge’ and ‘Subhash Chandra Bose: The Mystery’. “Our programming has always been curated and presented focusing on our core values of ‘surprise’, ‘amazing stories to tell’ and ‘satisfying curiosity’. For Discovery Channel, we are continuing to feed viewers with staple survival and adventure genre topped with more action, excitement and cutting-edge content like ‘Running Wild with Bear Grylls’ and ‘Auction Hunters’. We are also broadening the appeal with new series like ‘Selfie Survival’, ‘Taking Fire’, ‘Croc Isle Gold’ and ‘Wild India’,” Rao explains. Animal Planet Meanwhile, the focus of Animal Planet will rest on introducing movies and nature films. The channel will also bring new documentary series like ‘Yankee Jungle’ and ‘Tanzania’s Best Kept Secrets’, taking viewers into the world of animals and the humans who affect them. Discovery Science and Discover Turbo Talking about Discovery Science and Discover Turbo, Rao notes that their proposition is to give viewers a window to the world. “Our viewers expect latest information on space, technology, engineering, and automotive, which these brands continue to bring. We do it with tremendous talent, whether it’s people like Morgan Freeman, who hosts ‘Through the Wormhole’, or auto enthusiast Mike Brewer of ‘Wheeler Dealers’. We’re very timely and cover the latest missions and technological developments, such as the Jupiter and Comet missions, new car releases, events and races from around the world. “We will continue to offer the best of international content and franchises to our viewers through these networks,” he sums up.

Hindi GEC Zee TV is set to launch a new family drama show titled ‘Agniphera’ in February. The show will be aired from Monday to Friday. The social drama is directed and produced by Ravi Raj, who has directed shows like Colors’ ‘Swaragini’ and Star Plus’ ‘Silsila Pyaar Ka’. 
                            This will be the first show produced by Raj. The show will feature Ankit Gera and Yukti Kapoor as main leads along with Vedant Sawant and Simran Kaur. Kapoor and Sawant were earlier part of Star Plus’ ‘Siya Ke Ram’.
