Zee Wion News to go air on 15th august

Media tycoon and Essel Group chairman Subhash Chandra’s ambitious English news channel WION (World Is One News) is all set to begin its journey from 15 August, when the country celebrates its 70th Independence Day.

The channel, which is in test mode currently, is headed by Rohit Gandhi. It will report global news and issues from a South Asian lens.

WION will be initially launched in India and subsequently roll out in other markets.

WION had received its broadcasting licence from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) on 9 February.

With WION, Zee Media plans to highlight the huge potential of the SAARC region to the world and to become the one-stop destination for news in the region.

WION will be a mobile/digital-first platform with its newsgathering teams across the globe equipped with mobile technology for an ‘anytime, anywhere’ live approach to satisfy the ‘news as it happens’ need of Generation Z.

The company has created a content synergy where news from one platform is deployed to other platforms with the necessary modification to suit the platform and the target audience.

WION has been in the works for more than a year now. Chandra had announced his intention to launch an English news channel in August last year. Gandhi, who has worked with organisations like CNN and CBC, was appointed in August 2015.

WION is already active on the digital medium with wionews.com. The website has sections like South Asia, world, business, sports, technology, opinion and so on. Most of the stories on the website are from syndicated feeds.

Besides the regular updates on its Twitter and Facebook pages, WION is populating videos on its YouTube channel. It has also posted exclusive stories by WION reporters on the channel.

On the channel’s official website, Gandhi describes WION as a channel that “goes beyond reporting the banal”.

“We examine global events as they happen, but also push beyond to understand why they do. We trespass the borders that news organisations have operated within for the last three decades—serving the people of the country, the state, or the region where they are located. We look at the world as one, which is why our name is WION: World Is One News,” Gandhi declares.

WION, Gandhi says, will be a multi-platform news network that will stand by the oppressed.

“We have built a multiplatform, global English news network for you. We are digital-first, so catch us on your mobile phone, on the web, on internet radio, and on your television screen. What binds our journalism together is the common thread of global news neutrality. We do not report just for the powerful, the dictators of the world. We stand by the oppressed, and the marginalised,” he adds.

WION will be launched by Zee Media Corporation, a publicly listed company that runs a network of 10 Hindi and regional-language news channels in the country.

Few days back we had also reported that, Jio has tied up with Star TV owned Hotstar to offer premium content for free to Jio Play subscribers. Users simply need to click on a live star tv network channel in Jio play and they will get redirected to Hotstar app where they need to login with their Jio id and grant permission to link the two apps. Once this is done, the premium content of hotstar gets unlocked. The company also has plans to offer Jio TV connections through IPTV set top box once they launch commercially.

With apps like JioTV, Jio has an edge over other telecom operators as they don’t have live TV streaming apps. Jio’s nearest competitor in live mobile TV segment is Ditto TV which offers only 100 channels at a monthly rate of Rs 20. Though Jio may have an upper hand since differential data pricing excludes intranet which may enable it to provide streaming of live TV without losing out on the data quota.

Andrew McDonald has been named as the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League, it was revealed on Friday (August 12). The former Victorian all-rounder takes over after David Saker's appointment as Australia's bowling coach.
"The Big Bash League is extremely competitive and you do need some luck in this league but you create that as well," McDonald said, whose side hasn't made the finals in the last four seasons. "The smarter we play as a team and the more pressure we can put on our opposition, the more we'll find ourselves in winning positions."
McDonald will return to a side in the competition that he had captained in the inaugural season of the competition in 2011-12, where he scored two half-centuries and averaged 32.80 with the bat.
In addition, he was also part of the Adelaide Strikers for two seasons and Sydney Thunder, for one, before drawing curtains on his playing career.
McDonald is currently coaching the English County side Leicestershire for the third year in the running.

Binny Mishra added in Indias t20 squad vs West Indies

$

India have included seam-bowling all-rounder
Stuart Binny and legspinner Amit Mishra in the squad for the Twenty20 International series against West Indies in Florida. The All-India selection committee headed by Sandeep Patil decided to omit senior batsmen Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh from the 14-man squad to take on the T20 champions in a two-match series. The duo will instead ply their trade in the pink-ball Duleep Trophy tournament at home.
Hardik Pandya and Pawan Negi, the duo that represented India at the 2016 T20 WC at home in March-April, were left out. As were Ashish Nehra and Harbhajan Singh.
Binny, who last represented India in a T20I in July 2015, earns his recall following Pandya's indifferent form through the showpiece T20 event (5 wickets at an economy of 10.21 and 16 runs) and the ensuing Indian Premier League season (3 wickets at an economy of 9.18).
Negi, who attracted a whopping INR 8.5 crore bid from Delhi Daredevils, was left out of the India's contingent to Zimbabwe after a forgettable IPL campaign (57 runs and 1 wicket from 8 games). Mohammed Shami, another member of India's T20 WC squad, retains his place as one of four specialist seamers.
Jasprit Bumrah, named earlier in the India Green roster in the Duleep Trophy, is likely to miss the first round of matches of the four-day competition due to his selection in the national squad.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul was rewarded for his consistent showing across formats with a call-up to the first-choice T20I squad. The 24-year-old Karnataka batsman enjoyed a breakthrough season of IPL followed by a highly successful limited-overs debut on the tour of Zimbabwe.
The two T20Is will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park, Fort Lauderdale, Florida on August 27 and 28.
India Squad:
MS Dhoni (c&wk), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Amit Mishra, Stuart Binny

Samsung announced its flagship phablet Galaxy Note 7 earlier this month, and the smartphone was launched in India on Thursday. Even though the latest entry into Samsung's Galaxy Note series will come running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, the South-Korean company has reportedly said that Android 7.0 Nougat is making its way to the smartphone in next two to three months.
According to a report by The Korea Times, Samsung Mobile chief Koh Dong-jin revealed the timeline, and said, "It is very important for us to offer up-to-date information with the new OS, but what's more crucial is to build a stable and seamless platform for users."
"That's why we are planning to do enough beta testing before any OS updates," Koh added.
Android 7.0 Nougat will bring improvements like multi-window support, enhanced notifications, revamped doze, number blocking, and more.

Moto x 2016 clears CCC certification in china likely to be launched soon

$

Even before Motorola launched the new Moto Z and Moto Z Force, rumors started floating that the company may do away with the Moto X-line of smartphones. However, the alleged Moto X (2016) did show up in a couple of recent leaks and benchmark listings. Now, a smartphone bearing model number XT1662 has been certified by China’s CCC (China Compulsory Certificate). The CCC certificate is a safety mark issued for smartphones manufactured and imported in the country.
Now, while the certification only hints at the model number, other details about the specifications and features are missing at the moment. However, a device with the same model number was recently spotted on GFXBench, which revealed some of its key specifications and features. It could be launched as Moto X Play (2016) or simply as Moto X (2016).
As per the listing, the smartphone was spotted with a 4.6-inch full HD (1080p) display. Powered by MediaTek’s MT6755 (Helio P10) octa-core SoC running at 2.1GHz, it is paired with 3GB of RAM and Mali-T860 MP2 GPU. With 32GB of onboard storage, the listing doesn’t mention if it is expandable or not. In the photography department, a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera is expected onboard.
On the software front, the Moto X (2016) is likely to come pre-installed with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. In terms of connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 4G LTE are expected. While other details about pricing and availability are scarce at the moment, the smartphone clearing the certification would mean that the launch could be closer.
