Siti Cable Network renamed as Siti Networks

A new name brings in new vibes and possibly a new direction. At least that ‘s what the Essel group is aiming for if one goes by the name change it has resorted to at its national cable TV MSO Siti Cable. Last week, It informed the Bombay stock exchange, that it will be called Siti Networks as it has got shareholders (earlier) and the Registrars’ approval on 5 August for the renaming. The company was originally incorporated as Wire and Wireless (India) Ltd.

As reported by Indiantelevision.com earlier, Siti Networks reported 29.4 per cent growth in revenue for the fiscal ended 31 March 2016 (FY-16, current fiscal). The company reported revenue of Rs 1213 crore in FY-16 as compared to Rs 937 crore in the previous year. Operating profit (EBIDTA) in the current year increased to Rs 323 crore as compared to Rs 168.4 crore in FY-15.

The company has reported a profitable turnaround for the first time in its history. Neglecting the impact of minority interest, Siti profit after tax in the current year was Rs 6.84 crore as compared to a loss (without factoring in minority interest) of Rs 101.88 crore in FY-15.The company’s loss in the current year declined to Rs 1.71 crore from a loss of Rs 109.10 crore in FY-15. Siti reported profit before tax (PBT) at Rs 22 crore in FY16 as compared to a negative PBT of Rs 85.2 crore.

Siti’s cable subscribers in FY-16 grew to 1.22 crore from 1.05 crore reported at the end of FY-15. The growth happened in Q3-16.

On the other hand the digital subscribers in FY-16 increased to 79 lakh (64.8 percent of cable subscribers) as compared to 53.8 lakh in FY-15 (51.2 percent of cable subscribers). Digital subscribers in the quarter ended 31 March 2016 (Q4-16, current quarter) increased by 11 lakh to 79 lakh as compared to 68 lakh in Q3-16.

Whereas, the broadband subscribers in FY-16 grew 93.3 percent to1.355 lakh from 0.701 lakh in FY-15. Broadband subscribers in Q3-16 were 1.07 lakh.

Reliance Jio Lauches Jio Fi device with 90 day free Preview offer at rs 2899

NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio has started sales of its latest Mi-Fi device, JioFi, at a price of Rs 2,899. Similar to Lyf handsets, the Mi-Fi device comes bundled with the 90-day Jio preview data offer. It also offers unlimited 4G Internet, Voice Calls and SMS.

The JioFi can support around 31 devices simultaneously, and is available to all consumers through Reliance Digital Stores and Reliance Mini Express shops, according to various media reports.

Until now, Jio was selling this device only to HP laptop owners, who required a particular code to buy it.

Moreover, the 4G telco has once again extended unlimited benefits to its users whose validity was to be over by August 30.

Jio users under the preview offer with validity expiration date between August 15 to August 30 have now got an extension of validity for another 30 days through auto recharge, according to TelecomTalk

China 'squntum satellite enables hack proof communications

China has made history by launching the first ever quantum satellite developed by a team of Chinese and Austrian scientists, according to state-run media and The Wall Street Journal. If it works just as planned, then it signifies the beginning of a communications network that no hacker can infiltrate. See, a quantum-enabled network relies on the laws of physics rather than on common techniques for encryption. This satellite, which is named after the fifth century BC Chinese scientist "Micius," reportedly carries a crystal that can encode data and encryption keys in quantum particles beamed back to Earth.

Only authorized ground bases can read the encoded data, because the particles are destroyed if anybody else tries to decipher whatever is in them. As Gregoir Ribordy of Geneva-based quantum cryptography firm ID Quantique told the WSJ, "If someone tries to intercept [a particle] when it's being transmitted, by touching it, they make it burst." Further, the bases will know if someone tried to tamper with their data, since their computers can monitor changes in the particles' state. Clearly, a quantum-enabled network will beef up China's defenses against cyber spies deployed by other superpowers. It won't, however, boost the country's ability to launch cyberattacks.

Scientists from US, Japan, Canada and various parts of Europe have been pushing for the development of their own quantum communications systems. Unfortunately, their countries' governments haven't been as willing to invest in the development of the technology. While China's state media didn't mention how much was spent to build Micius, the WSJ notes that it forked out $101 billion for the research phase alone.

The team behind the project will test if the system works by beaming data to ground bases in Beijing and Vienna once the satellite is ready. If all goes well, China plans to deploy 19 more satellites or so to form a network that covers the entire planet.

Google Takes On Skype Face Time with new Video Calling App

SAN FRANCISCO: Knock, knock, Google's video chatting app has arrived.
The app, dubbed Duo, represents Google's response to other popular video calling options, including Apple's FaceTime, Microsoft's Skype and Facebook's Messenger app.

Duo isn't much different from the other video chatting services, except that it gives a glimpse at who is making the call, helping the recipient decide whether to answer. Google calls this feature, "Knock, knock."

The new app, announced in May, is being released Tuesday as a free service for phones running on Google's Android operating system as well as Apple's iPhones.
Like FaceTime for iPhones, Duo only requires a person's phone number to connect. Many other services require both participants to have account logins to use their video-calling options.

Microsoft Rolls Out A new authenticator app for android & ios makes

Leave it to Microsoft to make something as simple as a two-factor authentication (2FA) app as complicated as possible. Thankfully, Microsoft is cleaning up its hodge-podge of authenticator apps that include Azure Authenticator and Microsoft Account on Android with a single, unified version called Microsoft Authenticator.

The app is now available on Android and iOS, and at some point should be landing on Windows 10 Mobile—as soon as it exits the internal beta, that is.

Why this matters: An Authenticator app may not sound that exciting, but the new app does have a nice feature for anyone who lives in Microsoft’s online world. Whenever you log in to a Microsoft account, instead of requiring you to enter an authenticator code on your PC, it will pop-up an alert to let you authorize the login with a tap. Google rolled out a similar feature for Google accounts on Android in June. Enterprise users can also use Microsoft Authenticator on Android to log in to Microsoft-powered apps, according to the app’s description page.

The best feature yet, however, may come first to Windows 10 Mobile once the beta version of the new Microsoft Authenticator goes mainstream. The Windows 10 Mobile app, which first surfaced online in March, promises the ability to log in to a nearby computer with a single tap. However, that feature—according to Microsoft’s description page—requires a Bluetooth connection and appears to be geared towards enterprise users.

Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) will kick-start the upcoming season of Spanish football league- LaLiga, with a bold statement: it’s not football. It’s war.

The season will be telecast on Sony Six and Sony Six HD from 20 August.

MUMBAI :Zee Media Corporation’s English news channel World Is One News (WION), which launched on 15 August, is available on a free-to-air (FTA) basis on four direct-to-home (DTH) and two cable TV platforms.

Further, the channel is accessible via satellite in 37 countries.

On DTH, WION is available on Dish TV (channel no 605), Reliance Digital TV (channel no 459), Tata Sky (channel no 628) and Airtel Digital TV (channel no 999). The channel position on Airtel Digital TV is temporary.

On cable, the channel is available on Siti Cable and DEN Networks. Siti Cable is carrying the channel in Mumbai (channel no 419), Delhi (channel no 419), Bangalore (channel no 319), Indore (channel no 419), and Kolkata (channel no 430).

DEN is carrying the channel in Mumbai (channel no 371) and Kolkata (channel no 371).

As reported first by TelevisionPost.com, WION launched on 15 August. The channel will be initially launched in India and subsequently roll out in other markets.

Bharati Airtel to switch off IPTV service?

It persisted with its service for more than seven years. But now Bharati Airtel, which launched its IPTV offering in 2009, is reportedly shutting it down.

The company has been sending out notices to its less than 50,000 subscribers that it would be pulling the plug on it by 31 July first and now on31 August, according to news reports.

The service is available in Bengaluru and Delhi. In Delhi, it has been offering two packs, according to the Airtel website: SD 399 (Rs 399 for 196 SD channels, including 48 time shift channels), and HD599 (Rs 599 for 196 chax fonnels, 48 time shift channels and 12 HD channels). Bengaluru subscribers could avail of only the SD399 pack. A free wifi modem was thrown in when customers bought a set top bor Rs 3,500.

In both the cities, it appears to be making a sweet offering: IPTV, though running on top of the consumer’s broadband connection, would not consume bytes from his or her existing broadband plan. Additionally, the service allowed users could access seven days of recorded programmes.

Reports are that Airtel has written to its triple play customers saying that it would be offering an upgrade to its Airtel Digital TV DTH service at zero installation and activation cost (worth Rs 500), complementary HD USB set top box (Rs 1,300), 10 HD channel bouquet free for a month (Rs 111), free three months of recording (Rs 90), and a complimentary 8 GB pendrive (Rs 300).

Some irate Airtel customers have been clogging consumer complaints websites online expressing their unhappiness about the one-sided decision to shut down its IPTV service and pushing them to subscribe to Airtel Digital TV.

Airtel is switching ofF its IPTV service at a time when Reliance Jio is working on rolling out its own offering to customers. It imported a consignment of IPTV settop boxes a couple of months ago.

Attempts to contact Airtel officials were unsuccessful.
