Dish TV and Siti select Conax for cardless STBs

Essel Group-owned DTH operator Dish TV and MSO Siti Networks (earlier Siti Cable Network) have selected the Conax Cardless content protection solution as a key component for their cardless set-top boxes (STBs).

Based on the flagship Conax Contego security hub, the Conax Cardless conditional access technology will be a key and essential security component integrated in the chipsets, which will enable use of multiple layers of content protection in the new Dish TV and Siti Networks cardless STBs.

The agreement signifies a continued commitment between the Essel Group and Conax to further their long-term partnership and jointly bring new generations of technology to the group’s platforms.

Conax Cardless technology employs a unique combination of hardware security and security providing a hardware root of trust for the best level of protection. The secure software is executed within a purpose-built hardware protected environment (Secure Execution Environment) within the chipset.

The Conax Cardless technology provides seamless co-existence with legacy smart card population, all based on a single, unified backend, meaning in any operation only one backend is necessary

“With the growing competitive landscape in the operator segment, and the need for access to costly premium content and at the same time keeping operational costs low, it is essential to employ flexible solutions that also offer a high level of security as we look to continue to grow our business,” said Dish TV MD Jawahar Goel.

“Conax has been a long-term partner and we believe their strong security solutions will continue to provide an important layer of security to our growing pay TV business already servicing over 13 million subscribers,” he added.

“As we continue to advance our footprint in the Indian cable TV market and venture into digitisation in Phase III and IV markets, it is essential that new and cost-effective security solutions are available to us. Siti Networks is pleased to further its existing relationship with Conax and implement the Conax cardless technology going forward in our markets,” said Siti Networks CEO and executive director VD Wadhwa.

“Conax’s long-term relationship and partnership with Essel Group reaches a new milestone today as we look to further strengthen both the Dish TV and Siti Networks platforms and help expand its customer base with a new high-security, flexible and revolutionary solution,” said Conax president and CEO Morten Solbakken.

“With this unique concept, they are well positioned to capture additional new market share and protect the premium content demanded by savvy consumers. We are honoured to work together with Essel Group in the next step of their journey,” he added.

SPN to replicate Anil & Arjun Kapoor's real life relationship in 'Mubarakan'

Sony Pictures Networks Productions (SPNP), a division of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN), has announced their next film titled Mubarakan. In a casting coup of sorts, SPNP has roped in the real life chacha- bhatija Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor for this film. The duo will replicate the same camaraderie that they share in real life on screen too.

The film also stars Ileana D’Cruz, Athiya Shetty, Amrita Singh amongst others.

Mubarakan is a laugh riot with confusions galore, laughter, love, egos and emotions.

“We are very excited to embark on our journey for Mubarakan. From drama to horror to slice of life cinema and now comedy, we aim to present content that engages, evokes and entertains our audiences. I am certain that Mubarakan will be one of the most anticipated movies of 2017 and we look forward to receiving the same overwhelming support like we have in our previous movies”, said SPNP Dy president and head Sneha Rajani.

This family comedy will be directed by Anees Bazmee and is produced by SPNP and Ashwin Varde and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios. The film has been written by Balli Januja and Rupinder Chahal and is all set to go on the floors by November 2016. It is slated for a 28 July 2017 release.

Bazmee said, “Mubarakan is one of the best scripts I’ve come across in recent times. That’s what attracted me to it primarily. The highlight of the film will be Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor coming together for the first time on screen. The madness of the script along with the fantastic ensemble cast, we are all set to create something that will be unparalleled.”

Bazmee has to its credit an array of movies directed by him like last film Welcome Back, Ready, etc.
