ECB to launch rival t20 league for IPL & BBL
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is planning to launch a rival Twenty20 league to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Big Bash League (BBL), according to a report in
The Telegraph on Wednesday (July 27) which will be the most radical overhaul in English county cricket's history.
The tournament is likely to be launched in early 2018, and will be played over a four-week span. The launch of the competition along with the Natwest T20 Blast meant that England would be the only country with two domestic T20 competitions scheduled in its domestic calendar.
According the proposal, the counties will be shareholders and the players will be auctioned with the income from broadcast deals to be funding for salaries.
The counties, however, are keen on carrying on playing their T20 competition on Friday nights that amount to substantial revenue alongside the proposed competition. The England board officials will have to work hard in coaxing the counties about the new tournament with the board needing at least 12 counties to vote in favour out of 18 for the proposal to go ahead.
"A team of officials at the England & Wales Cricket Board has been working for months on the structure of a proposal for a new Twenty20 tournament featuring new teams with new identities, which if agreed by the counties will then be sold to broadcasters with one live match per week set to be shown on terrestrial television," reported the English daily.
The proposals will be sent next month and a decision is likely to be reached by the end of this year. The board has called for a meet of the county chairmen on September 14 to discuss the idea in detail.
"It is painful that we are not market leaders in T20 but the real sadness is that we are not even keeping up with the rest," a county chairman was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
The idea is also to include new venues like Olympic Stadium and Wembley to attract more fans. The board has also roped in Deloitte, an accountancy firm, that is working on evaluating the tournament worth and are also financially reviewing the Natwest T20 Blast simultaneously.
The ECB plans to sell the broadcasting rights to earn lucrative deals. However, their current deal with Sky Sports runs till 2019 but it's highly likely the board will seek another broadcaster.

Zimbabwe Vs Newzeland scores news & updates
Bulawayo is home to two of the three venues where Test cricket has been played in Zimbabwe in the past - the Queens Sports Club and Bulawayo Athletic Club. However, they have missed being witness to the traditional form of the game as the city last saw their national side in white flannels five years ago. It was New Zealand who played the last Test hosted by the city in November 2011, beating the hosts by 34 runs. The city has since, hosted 17 One-Day Internationals and four Twenty20 Internationals, but no Tests as Harare hosted all five.
With speculations surrounding the feasibility of the tour given the looming security concerns, the New Zealand series was under threat. If canned, it would have been a major disappointment for the Bulawayo residents. However, the second-largest city in Zimbabwe will rejoice in unison as Test cricket returns to the city when New Zealand kick-start a two-match series at the Queens Sports Club on Thursday (July 28).
Playing their first Test since their three-match whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh in 2014, Zimbabwe will want to make a fresh start under their new captain Graeme Cremer, who has been named skipper after having led the side against India in the limited-overs series. Brendon Taylor, who was skipper of the side then, announced his retirement from international cricket after the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.
In some sense, it will also be a fresh start for New Zealand as Kane Williamson takes over as full-time captain post the retirement of Brendon McCullum in February. However, the visitors seem to be far better prepared when compared to the hosts who not just are low on confidence, after having lost both the ODI and T20I series to India and their warm-up games - against South Africa A and the New Zealanders -comprehensively, but also have had a couple of injuries leading up to the series.
In the warm-up games, the Zimbabwe A side had their mainstay players from the Test squad looking at getting a handy hit-out. However, it was the New Zealanders that got a thorough, all-round game-time as both batsmen and bowlers made the most of the practice game.
Ish Sodhi, who last played a Test match against Pakistan in Sharjah in 2014, earned a recall and impressed with an all-round show of an unbeaten half-century and six wickets in the match. As many as four New Zealanders got half-centuries, of which two retired out and one remained unbeaten as New Zealanders scored 345 in the first innings in Harare.
Zimbabwe A, on the other hand, saw ducks from their top three as Tim Southee and Trent Boult ran through the top order and Sodhi skittled the lower one for not too many to bowl out the hosts for 114. Only Sean Williams (55) and Sikandar Raza (27) boasted of substantial scores. Their second innings' outing was slightly better but they eventually slipped to a 259-run loss.
The conditions and outfield in Bulawayo are touted to be similar to the ones in Harare. With successful acclimatising to those conditions, New Zealand will be confident heading into the series.
After having last played Zimbabwe in Napier way back in January 2012, where the hosts won by an innings and 301 runs, New Zealand will want to continue their domination over an opposition that has failed to beat them in the format thus far. New Zealand have toured the southern African nation five times, and have won four series and drawn the fifth.
This series also serves as a warm-up for New Zealand's two-Test series against South Africa, the first of which is slated to be played in Durban starting August 19 and the second in Centurion on August 27.

SPN to live telecast UFC 201 in India
UFC Fighter Tyron ‘T-Wood’ Woodley aka The Chosen One, recently made his Bollywood debut in the Salman Khan starrer, Sultan where he fought the superstar on the big screen. The UFC 201 fight card also features some of the other highly awaited fights. Q1-17: Airtel DTH revenue up 22.2 percent
DAS phase III has been a boost for the carriage industry in subscriber additions, revenues, and operating profits. Buoyed by the government’s decision to stick to deadlines for digitisation, the DTH industry in India is continuing its bloom run, if one were to go by the results reported by Bharti Airtel Limited about its Digital TV services (Airtel DTH) for the quarter and year ended 30 March 2016 (Q1-17, current quarter.
Revenue from Airtel’s DTH segment in Q1-17 increased 22.2 per cent to Rs 836.9 crore as compared to Rs 684.8 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Airtel’s DTH segment reported EBIT (Earnings before interest and tax) of Rs 121.9 crore (14.6 per cent operating margin) as compared to EBIT of Rs 41.5 crore (6.1 percent operating margin) in Q1-16..
Subscription numbers
Airtel DTH added 4.24 lakh net subscribers in Q1-17 to bring its subscriber base to 121.9 lakh rom 117.25 lakh in the previous quarter. Average revenue per user (ARPU) increased to Rs 233 from Rs 229 in the immediate trailing quarter. Airtel DTH reported a monthly subscriber churn of 0.8 percent in Q1-17, same as the churn in Q1-16 and Q4-16.
Capex
Airtel increased capex for its DTH segment for Q1-17 by Rs 203 crore as compared to the Rs 211.3 during the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company’s cumulative investments into Airtel DTH increased 19.1 per cent to Rs 6,693.6 crore in the current quarter as compared to Rs 5,621.6 crore in Q1-16.
Bharti Airtel Limited numbers
Airtel DTH contributes just about 4 per cent to Bharti Airtel’s Limited. Bharti Airtel reported total revenue of Rs 25,546.5 crore in Q1-17, 7.9 per cent more than the Rs 23.671 crore in Q1-16..
After accounting for exceptional items (net gains of Rs 82 crore), the consolidated net income for the current quarter stands at Rs 1,462 crore compared to Rs 2,113 crore in corresponding quarter of last year. Q1-16 net Income of Rs 2,113 crore has been re-instated to Ind-AS from previously reported IFRS figures which includes an exceptional gain of Rs 556 crore on account of this reinstatement.

Netgear Nighthawk WiFi router launched in India, claims to offer speeds up to 2.53Gbp

Netgear has launched the Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Smart WiFi Router (R7800) in India.
Nighthawk X4S optimizes usage of available bandwidth. With its dual-core 1.7GHz processor, it claims to provide 802.11ac WiFi speeds up to 2.53Gbps and supports up to four data streams in each WiFi band, maximizing connection speeds for sending data to multiple mobile devices simultaneously.
"You can stream your favorite 4K HD video to one device and play an intense multi-user online video game on a different device, with greater clarity and less buffering, throughout your home," claimed Netgear.
Even though the newest WiFi routers like Nighthawk X4S now support four streams for improved bandwidth, many mobile devices continue to have only single- or dual-stream support due to size and battery life constraints. To solve this problem, Netgear has designed Nighthawk X4S to support the highest possible 160MHz bandwidth, effectively doubling the throughput for supported mobile devices and ensuring the fastest possible speeds.
Netgear Nighthawk routers has external antennas with powerful amplifiers that combine with Beamforming+ to ensure the best WiFi coverage and reliability throughout large homes and even backyards, by focusing WiFi directly at connected devices.

Q1-17: Dish TV adds 4 lakh subs, subscription revenue up at Rs 728 cr
Indian direct to home (DTH) company Dish TV India Limited (Dish TV) has reported growth across important financial and operational parameters including operating revenues (TIO) , EBIDTA and subscription numbers. The company reported addition of 4.02 lakh net subscribers for the quarter ended 30 June 2016 (Q1-17, current). It closed the quarter with 149 lakh subscribers. Average revenue per user (ARPU) for Q1-17 remained the same year-over-year (y-o-y) and quarter-over-quarter (q-o-q) at Rs 174.
Dish TV reported 6.7 percent higher y-o-y subscription revenue of Rs 728.2 crore for Q1-17, as compared to Rs 682.8 crore. Operating revenue in the current quarter increased 5.7 percent y-o-y to Rs 778.6 crore from Rs 736.7 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. (Refer Note 2.1 and 2.2 below)
Dish TV reported PAT of Rs. 50.9 crore in Q1-17, down 24.6 percent as compared to Rs 54.2 crore in Q1-16.
EBIDTA in the current quarter increased 12.2 percent to Rs 264.6 crore from Rs 235.7 crore in Q1-16.
Total Expense in the current quarter increased 2.6 percent y-o-y to Rs 513.9 crore (66 percent of revenue) from Rs 500.9 crore (68 percent of revenue). (Refer note 2.3 below) Personnel cost increased 9.8 percent y-o-y to Rs 38.1 crore (4.9 percent of revenue) from Rs 34.7 crore (4.7 percent of revenue). Cost of sales and services declined 1.8 percent y-o-y to Rs 358.4 crore (46 percent of revenue) from Rs 365 crore (49.5 percent of revenue).
Dish TV managing director Jawahar Goel said, “Buoyed by digitization, notwithstanding the relative seasonal weakness in 1Q, the industry collectively added around 15 percent higher subscribers compared to the same quarter last fiscal. Dish TV maintained its lead in incremental subscriber additions during the quarter. Our strengthened distribution in DAS Phase III and IV areas along with the popularity of the Dish TV Insta Care – 4- Hour Service Assurance Campaign were instrumental in helping us maintain an edge over competition. Our regional and mass-market offerings continued to remain crowd-pullers in respective geographies.”
“The consumers growing passion for HD has the potential to trigger yet another round of growth, beyond that being driven by digitization, for the DTH industry. Going forward, we would continue to build on our HD advantage while focusing on its sales across the country,” Goel added.
To further enhance the digital TV experience for subscribers and build an affordable and fast deployment model for itself, Dish TV recently selected Wyplay’s Frog as the Middleware for its next generation Set-Top-Boxes. Wyplay is an HTML5 browser based system and incorporates all features required for traditional linear broadcast TV consumption, on-demand content and applications distributed over the internet.
Talking about the first quarter results, Goel said, “Healthy subscriber additions led to a 12.3 percent y-o-y increase in subscription revenues (on a like-to-like basis). EBITDA margin bounced to 34.0 percent from 32.0 per cent in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. Net Profit for the quarter was Rs. 409 million leading to FCF generation of Rs. 627 million. Churn for the quarter at 0.7 percent per month remained well within manageable limits.”
Expressing his views on other regulatory overhangs Goel, said, “An industry favourable resolution of the DTH license fee matter should go a long way in ensuring non-discrimination amongst various distribution platforms in the country. We are also hopeful of a just and logical outcome of the currently debated TRAI consultation paper on Interconnection Framework for Broadcasting TV Services Distributed through Addressable Systems.”
