MUMBAI: DTH player Tata Sky has launched India’s first service with four music genres on a pay TV platform, ‘Music+’, in partnership with digital entertainment company Hungama.

Segmented into four blocks—Mehfil, Indie Rootz, Jazz and International, the service will be co-curated by composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Music+ will give Tata Sky subscribers exclusive access to a rich trove of music content (ranging from classics to latest launches) including music videos, concerts and artist interviews, spanning a breadth of genres from international pop, country, rock and Indie music to jazz and blues, Sufi, folk, nazms and ghazals. Subscribers to the service will also be able to watch some of the biggest on-ground music events and festivals in the country from the comfort of their homes.

Tata Sky chief commercial officer Pallavi Puri said, “While there are a lot of popular music channels on TV today, we felt there is a need for a destination that showcases unique genres like Sufi, qawwali, folk, jazz and country. Now, with the launch of Music+, Tata Sky subscribers get access to the best of these genres, on their TV screens, any time of the day. And with content specially curated by musical legends Shankar-Ehsan-Loy, the offering on Music+ is guaranteed to be qualitatively superior.”

Commenting on Hungama’s association with Tata Sky, Hungama.com CEO Siddhartha Roy said, “We are delighted to partner with Tata Sky for Music+ and offer curated music content for the discerning audience, who has an evolved taste in genres like ghazals, Sufi, jaaz, blues and international. The Music+ experience promises to be unique with a variety of content and a line-up of great artists like Pankaj Udhas, Jagjit Singh, Elvis, Abba, Miles Davis, Eric Clapton, Salim-Suleiman, Armaan Malik and many more.”

Tata Sky Music+ will be available on channel no. 817. It will be available to all Tata Sky subscribers free of cost for the first five days and subsequently priced at Rs 3 per day, making it accessible to subscribers across age groups, geographical and socio-economic boundaries.

Content features of Music+:

Weekday will have hit songs and new releases, artist interviews and recorded live concerts
‘Mehfil’ will play the best of songs across the genres of Sufi, ghazals and qawaali
‘International’ section will play rock, pop, retro and dance hits of international artists
‘Jazz & more’ section will play jazz, soul, blues and country
‘Indie Rootz’ will play contemporary pop, rock and folk music of Indian artists.

MUMBAI: English GEC AXN is looking to take its content initiative ‘Fresh from the US’ to the next level.

As part of the big push, ‘Fresh from the US’, a weekend property which airs episodes of shows close to their US airing, will have four shows kicked off this weekend. ‘Bull’, ‘MacGyver’, ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Elementary’ will air in the 10 pm and 11 pm slots. While the first two shows are brand new, the other two are new seasons of returning shows.

“Four of the shows are being replaced at once. We do not usually replace so many shows ‘Fresh from the US’ at one go. But if all the shows are new or returning, then optimisation does not happen. The aim is to leverage the older shows to get the new shows sampled, and at the same time have a mix of new and old shows working,” Sony Pictures Networks India EVP, business head English entertainment cluster Saurabh Yagnik told TelevisionPost.com.

The focus of ‘Fresh from the US’ is on dramas. The initiative targets influencers while the weekday shows target the adopters. The influencers are much more evolved and like to view content day and date to the US.

The adopters are also getting familiar with the English space. For them it is about how they can experience the category, and to this end they leverage information from the influencers. AXN’s focus is on catering to both audience sets.

Yagnik said that the aim is to have an optimal mix of new and returning shows. Through optimisation the broadcaster hopes to leverage the popularity of the returning shows to get viewers to sample the new ones.

That is why new seasons of familiar shows—’Supernatural’ and ‘Elementary’—air respectively on Saturday and Sunday at 10 pm, while the new shows ‘MacGyver’ and ‘Bull’ follow them at 11 pm. The aim is to also reduce the level of complexity for a viewer to remember what show is coming on a channel. Therefore, the aim of the weekend is to build on the slot promise rather than on an individual show.

Individual shows might be new and so they need to be established. “Certain shows are popular and have returning seasons coming, and certain shows are new. It is a balanced mix so that people are very clear about what to expect from that slot.

The broadcaster groups shows into three levels—P1, P2 and P3. The grounds for classification include familiarity and the star cast. So shows like ‘Sherlock’, ‘The Voice’ and ‘Fear Factor’ belong to the P1 tier. Often a new show will belong to P3 but moves up as seasons air and viewers become more familiar.

The USP of AXN is content diversity, Yagnik said. That is what the tagline ‘Live R.E.D.’, which was adopted in January, aims to convey—Reality Entertainment Drama.

“We have done a couple of consumer dipsticks to figure out how the refresh has been received. The sharpness with which we have positioned the channel and what people are expecting from us have come up very well. People have understood that we are a destination for reality, entertainment and drama.”

Yagnik attributes AXN’s success to addressing consumers’ needs in a consistent manner. So on weekdays 8 pm is entertainment, 9 pm is reality and 10–11 pm is drama. The aim is to populate content diversity and distinct slot promises.

According to Yagnik, advertiser feedback has been positive. Now the aim is to keep building on things. The refresh of a brand takes time to be established, and AXN’s aim is to consolidate on what has been achieved.

For marketing, social media is vital. The channel also looks to hang out in the right places, which is why it has a tie-up with Comic Con India.

ZEEL to launch Marathi HD channels, Bangla to follow next

MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd ( ZEEL) is all set to launch Marathi high-definition (HD) channels Zee Marathi HD and Zee Talkies HD. Zee Talkies HD is slated to launch on 15 October. The date for launch of Zee Marathi HD is not confirmed.

The HD channels are likely to be mirrors of their standard-definition (SD) versions. Zee Marathi and Zee Talkies are a GEC and a movie channel respectively. The network has secured deals with leading direct-to-home (DTH) platforms like Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV, Videocon d2h and Tata Sky. TelevisionPost.com had earlier reported that ZEEL would launch regional HD channels in Marathi, Bengali and Telugu.

Also on the anvil are HD versions of Bengali GEC Zee Bangla and movie channel Zee Bangla Cinema. The broadcaster had recently received clearance from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to launch Zee Marathi HD, Zee Talkies HD, Zee Bangla HD, and Zee Bangla Cinema HD. The regional TV space is witnessing a spurt in the number of new HD channels.

Star India had earlier launched HD versions of Star Pravah, Star Vijay, Star Jalsha and Jalsha Movies. Viacom18 also launched Colors Marathi HD, Colors Kannada HD and Colors Bangla HD

Frost, Kyabe included in game's 1st DLC pack

Bandai Namco Entertainment America began streaming a trailer for its Dragon BallXenoverse 2 game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Thursday. The trailer shows the character Goku Black in action. Goku Black is a character that appears in the currentlyrunning "Future Trunks" arc in the Dragon Ball Super anime. The character is available as a pre-order bonus for the game.

In addition, the company's official Twitter account revealed that Frost and Kyabe will be playable part of the game's first DLC pack.

The game's open beta for PS4 starts on Friday.

Bandai Namco Entertainment will release the game in North America on October 25 and in Europe on October 28. The company will release the game on PC via Steam worldwide on October 28. The game will then ship for the PlayStation 4 in Japan on November 2.

The game's European release includes a collector's edition, a deluxe edition, and pre-order bonuses. The collector's edition for PS4 and Xbox One includes a 34 cm (about 13.4 inch) Son Goku figurine with exclusive coloring and a Time Patroller's Guide.



The deluxe edition for PS4 gives players early access to play as Future Trunks, and also features a season pass that will give players access to four content packs that will feature: playable characters; episodes and quests; masters and masters quests; stages; and skills, costumes, and accessories.



Aside from Goku Black, those who pre-order the game will get the Tao Pai Pai stick to fly around Conton City.



Players will fight to "protect the history of Dragon Ball" in the game. In the game's story, Time Patrollers go on missions to prevent history from being changed. However, there may be parts of history that they would like to change.

Dimps is developing the title after it worked on the first Xenoverse game.

The first game shipped for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 consoles in Japan on February 5, 2015. The game then debuted in the United States on February 24, 2015 and in Europe on February 27, 2015. The game also debuted on PC via Steam on February 27, 2015.
