Arjun Nair named in CA 11 Squad

Teenager Arjun Nair has been named in a 12-player Cricket Australia XI side that will take on South Africa in the first of two two-day tour match at the Adelaide Oval, starting on October 22.
"This is a really exciting opportunity for these players to test their abilities against quite a formidable South African side," Greg Chappell, the National Talent Manager, said on Monday (October 17), with all the players picked being aged 22 or younger. "Ten of the 12 players in this side are currently playing with the CA XI squad in the Matador BBQs Cup and they will come in with some really solid match practice at an extremely high level of competition.
"It's another step in stretching these young players to compete at a higher level and see how they fare. We believe they have the capabilities to compete against the South Africans, and are excited to see what they produce," the release added.
All players have been picked after impressive outings in the ongoing Matador One-Day Cup. Matthew Short will lead the side.
Nair, 18, has been rather impressive in the domestic competition so far for CA XI, having scored 72 runs and picking up eight wickets in four matches. Ryan Gibson has the second-most runs in the competition behind Cameron White (384), with 293 at an average of 58.60, while Josh Inglis has been among the runs himself with 181 so far.

WASHINGTON: Last month was the warmest September in 136 years of record-keeping, meaning 11 of the past 12 consecutive months dating back to October last year have set new monthly high-temperature records,
NASA said.

According to a monthly analysis of global temperatures by scientists at NASA's
Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in the US, September 2016's temperature was a razor-thin 0.004 degrees Celsius warmer than the previous warmest September in 2014.

The margin is so narrow that those two months are in a statistical tie. Last month was 0.91 degrees Celsius warmer than the mean September temperature from 1951-1980.

The record-warm September means 11 of the past 12 consecutive months dating back to October 2015 have set new monthly high-temperature records.

Updates to the input data have meant that June 2016, previously reported to have been the warmest June on record, is, in GISS's updated analysis, the third warmest June behind 2015 and 1998 after receiving additional temperature readings from Antarctica.

The late reports lowered the June 2016 anomaly by 0.05 degrees Celsius to 0.75.

"Monthly rankings are sensitive to updates in the record, and our latest update to mid-winter readings from the South Pole has changed the ranking for June," said GISS director Gavin Schmidt.

"We continue to stress that while monthly rankings are newsworthy, they are not nearly as important as long-term trends," said Schmidt.

The monthly analysis by the GISS team is assembled from publicly available data acquired by about 6,300 meteorological stations around the world, ship- and buoy-based instruments measuring sea surface temperature, and Antarctic research stations.

The global temperature record begins around 1880 because previous observations did not cover enough of the planet.

Monthly analyses are updated when additional data becomes available, and the results are subject to change, NASA said.

Dish TV to offer four new regional HD channels


MUMBAI: Direct-to-home (DTH) operator Dish TV has added four new regional high-definition (HD) channels, namely Zee Talkies HD, Colors Kannada HD, Colors Bangla HD and ETV HD, to its offering.

With the new additions, Dish TV has taken the total count of HD channels to 55.


The newly added channels will be available to Dish TV subscribers for a free preview until 1 November.

Announcing this new development Dish TV India CEO Arun Kapoor said, “Dish TV has always taken a lead in enhancing TV viewing experience and exploring opportunities to bring wholesome entertainment to the audience. With a sharp focus on regional-language content, the move aims at connecting strongly with the regional-language subscribers. This addition of four new regional HD channels will not only strengthen our presence in the HD space but will also diversify our offerings.”

Dish TV recently introduced special festive offers to enable customers to opt for a new HD connection by paying Rs 120 extra. Customers just have to pay an introductory price of Rs 1,990, which will include subscription of one-month Super Family Pack/Jumbo Pack and any one HD add-on (worth Rs 75) for one month at no extra cost. Customers will also get options to select HD sachets at a nominal price of Rs 75.

Reliance Digital TV Announces Diwali offers with Free HD Channels till Oct 30

Reliance Direct to Home (DTH) Digital Television services are now offers a free package of High Definition (HD) channels for viewing. Reliance Digital TV has announced this promotional offer in the view of coming festival Diwali.
The Reliance Digital TV Diwali offer will be closed by 30th Oct 2016. The willing subscribers have to pay the fixed charges of the Packs that are offered by Reliance after the offer period. This is said to be the business strategy as to the digital clarity to the normal SD viewers.

Reliance Digital TV offers a total of 310 channels through its DTH services. Out of which 288 are SD channels and 12 are HD channels. The remaining 10 are the Radio frequency channels.

Now as per the offer all the 12 HD channels can be viewed by the SD Channel package holders freely. The free channels will be made available till 30th Oct 2016 mid night. If the users wish to view them after the said date, then have to opt for the package mentioned by Reliance DTH.
In general, HD channels are known for their superior clarity picture quality when compared to normal SD channels. Reliance DTH has 9 transponders on MEASAT 3 for relay purposes.

Out of these 9, 5 transponders are shared with the Sun network. SUN Direct DTH is one of the major and tough competitors for Reliance. In the past, talks were held between the two for the acquisition of Reliance DTH services. But somehow they were not fruitful and both remained in their own streams of business.
To remember, TATA Sky DTH services also offered similarly to celebrate its 10th anniversary a couple of months ago. TATA Sky offered both SD and HD channels free for its subscribers for a period of two weeks.

368 TV CHANNELS ON JIO

Reliance Jio's Over-The-Top (OTT) service Jio TV has increased its total TV channel offering to 368, enabling it to match that of cable TV & DTH delivery.
Jio Play has 112 news channels, 90 entertainment channels, 32 movie channels, 31 music channels, 23 infotainment channels, 23 kids' channels, 21 devotional channels, 18 sports channels, 11 lifestyle channels and 7 business news channels.

LARGEST OTT
Jio TV is the only OTT service that offers virtually all the major channels in India.
Even ZEEL's 'dittoTV' OTT does not have channels from rival broadcasters like Star India and Sun TV Network. Star India, as a principle, has not been providing its content to any third-party OTT service.
IndiaCast Media, TV18 and Viacom18’s distribution arm, and Sony Pictures Networks are the only broadcasters that are providing their content to other OTT players despite having their own platforms.
Even ZEEL has been selective in providing its channels to other OTT platforms.

JIO TV
The Jio TV app is accessible only to Reliance Jio users. It allows users to watch their favourite channels anytime and anywhere. It also allows users to pause and play live TV channels from the point they left off. Jio TV ALSO allows users to enjoy missed episodes of prime shows, telecast in the past 7 days.
The multilingual user interface in 10 languages allows users to explore the app in English, Hindi and other regional languages.


 



VOD: JIO CINEMA
The 4G operator has also renamed its 'Jio On Demand' as 'Jio Cinema'.
The on-demand video library app has over 1 lakh+ hours of content comprising movies, TV shows, music videos, Jio shorts, and trailers.

MUSIC APP
Indian mobile phone users are open to spending money to listen to songs of their choice. JIO Music taps this market, featuring millions of HD songs spanning 20 Indian languages and international music.

NEWS & MAG APP
Jio Xpress News is a news and magazine aggregation app giving users access to hundreds of news publications as well as 5000+ magazines in 10 languages.

NOT CHEAP
Contrary to the initial euphoria after the announcement for unlimited free calls, realisation has dawned that the Jio service is not cheap.
In India, monthly voice ARPU is approximately Rs. 150 per month. JIO take a minimum of Rs. 149 to activate its service for post paid subscribers, i.e. am amount approximately equal to the ARPU.
There are 7 post-paid monthly plans ranging from Rs. 149 (+Tax) to Rs. 4,999 (+Tax).

FREE SCHEME TO BOOST 4G HANDSETS
Currently, less than 5% of Indian mobile phones are 4G enabled. This severely restricts JIO's potential customer base.
To induce users to buy 4G phone and sample its service, JIO is offering free SIMs and service till end December 2016.

100 MBpsBROADBAND
JIO has commenced installing Fibre To The Home (FTTH) in select multi-storied building in select cities. It has however not commenced any service.
JIO however promises 100 MBps High Speed broadband to all its fibre customers, when the service commences.
Tariff plans have not been finalised but reports are that tentative pricing includes it Top tier domestic plan offering 500 GB per month @ 100 MBps for Rs. 2,000 per month.

CABLE TV
JIO has not released any details on its proposed Cable TV service that wil be delivered via its FTTH domestic network.

RELIANCE OWNED TV CHANNELS
Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd is an Indian mass media company which is owned and operated by Reliance Industries. Headquartered in Noida, India. It has interests in television, print, internet, film, mobile content and allied businesses.
Network 18 through its subsidiary 'TV18 Broadcast Limited', operates news channels. TV18 also operates a joint venture with Viacom, called Viacom18, which houses a portfolio of popular entertainment channels across genres. TV18 also operates a factual entertainment channel History TV18 through a joint venture with A+E Networks.

Table-1 lists the more than 50 TV channels owned by Reliance Industries, including some channels are soon to be launched.
However, the company has said that JIO will launch Cable TV services only after its completes the commercial launch of its telecom services.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the TV service will probably launch around June 2017.

OTT ON TV?
Since JIO has already rolled out its 368 TV channel OTT service, there is speculation, that in Jan- Feb 2017, JIO may offer a Chromecast like wireless dongle that will deliver all the 368 OTT channels, including HD channels, directly to a TV set.
The dongle could have a JIO SIM authorised only for reception of specific TV channels.
This completely bypasses and Cable or DTH delivery, using only JIO's already rolled out service and infrastructure. n
