Tata Sky to drop MTV Indies, MTunes from its platform

Direct-to-home (DTH) operator Tata Sky will remove music channels MTV Indies and MTunes and their high-definition (HD) versions from its platform from 4 and 31 October respectively.

The DTH operator said that MTV Indies will be discontinued due to mutual understanding between the parties. In case of MTunes, the parties have failed to renew the agreement.

As reported by TelevisionPost.com, Viacom18 is launching a Hindi music channel called MTV Beats to replace MTV Indies, whose content will be available on digital.

MTV Beats is already available on Freedish. The broadcaster also has a licence to launch MTV Beats HD.

How you can use this Finder:
First you connect a cable from the dish to the "LNBF IN" port of the satellite finder.
Then you connect another wire from the satellite finder to your satellite receiver's "TO DISH" or "LNBF IN" or "SAT IN" port.
Then hook your television to the "TV OUT" or "VIDEO OUT" of the satellite receiver. 
Turn everything on. 
Put the satellite receiver into the "Point Dish" screen.
Take the satellite FINDER and put it on its highest sensitivity setting.
Move the dish around (up/down/left/right) until the finder starts beeping.
When the satellite finder starts beeping turn its sensitivity down slowly until the beeping just stops.
Move the satellite dish around (up/down/left/right) until it starts beeping again.
Repeat the process until the television screen gets a good signal.

MTunes to renew distribution pact with Tata Sky



Music broadcaster MTunes is in the process of renewing its contract with direct-to-home (DTH) service provider Tata Sky. The new distribution deal will be for one year, sources in the industry said. The channels include MTunes (SD) and MTunes (HD). The old contract between broadcaster MTunes and Tata Sky expires on 31 October. Earlier, Tata Sky had issued a public notice stating that it had failed to mutually reach an understanding with MTunes to renew the agreement. MTunes offers Bollywood music in original HD and 5.1 Dolby surround sound. It is positioned as an elite, cool, sexy and colourful channel and has managed to carve out a niche space in the highly competitive and crowded music space.

Newbie FTA channel Zee Anmol Cinema breaks into the top 5 in Week 36

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd’s (ZEEL) newly launched free-to-air (FTA) Hindi movie channel Zee Anmol Cinema entered the top 5 rankings, according to BARC data for the week ended 9 September. Zee Anmol Cinema was launched on 1 September, which fell in the 35th week of BARC ratings for the period 27 August to 2 September this year. Week 36 was the first full week data for the channel. Zee Anmol Cinema, pitched against Star Utsav Movies, Sony Wah and Rishtey Cineplex, has emerged as the biggest launch in the FTA movie genre with 189,831 GTVTs in the rural Hindi-speaking markets (HSM), ZEEL said quoting BARC data.
The most-watched movies include a mix of old and new titles like ‘Ganga Jamuna Saraswati’, ‘Singh is Bling’, ‘Diljale’, ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Gadar’ (HSM Rural; NCCS 4+, Week 36), ZEEL said. Zee Anmol displaced Movies OK from the fifth position. Star Gold returned to the No. 2 position, pushing Zee Cinema to the third position. Sony Max and Sony Wah were at the first and fourth positions respectively.

Even as three television channels renewed their licences to remain on the country’s only free to air direct to home platform DD Freedish, the price went up to Rs 5.2 crore in the e-auction held yesterday.

Interestingly, the 30th Auction was held on 15 September, which also coincides with the day when Doordarshan first started beaming in the year 1959.

A DD source told indiantelevision.com that although the reserve price was Rs 4.3 crore, one of the three channels had bid Rs 5.2 crore.

The three channels are IBN 7, WoW Cinema, and Bholjpuri Cinema.

The slots were falling vacant as license period of three three TV channels on the platform was or had expired.

Freedish has not raised its reserve price. The reserve price had been Rs 3.7 crore till last year but was raised to its present level for the 25th e-auction in January.

The platform at present has space for eighty channels including its own channels and Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha TV along with 24 All India Radio channels.

These sources told indiantelevision.com that Freedish is being encrypted through Indian Conditional Addressable System (iCAS) to keep a tab on the number of subscribers, but it would remain free-to-air.

The e-Auction will be conducted by M/s. C1 India Pvt. Ltd., Noida which also conducted the first stage of the FM Radio Phase III auctions on behalf of Prasar Bharati.

Aniplex Launches 'Script Room' Anime Writing & Production Group

Aniplex announced on Thursday that it has established a planning and production group named Script Room. Director Tomohiko Ito (Sword Art Online series, Silver Spoon, ERASED) is heading the group. The group will focus on writing scripts and scenarios for anime, but will also branch out to production and advertising. The group aims to take a new approach to writing anime, and hopes to reveal undiscovered talent.

Ito noted that he had wanted to create a "writer's room," where a group of writers focus on one project. He mentioned that the concept is rare in Japan, but common overseas. He cited Pixar's group writing process as an inspiration and an eventual goal.

The group is accepting applications for writers until September 30. There are no age, gender, or writing experience requirements.

Ito is currently directing the Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale anime film, which will premiere in Japan in spring 2017, and will screen in 1,000 theaters worldwide.
