Dhoni may continue to play till 2019 WC
MS Dhoni, India most successful ODI captain who led the Men in Blue to a series win over New Zealand on Saturday , is already thinking about building a team for the 2019 World Cup in England, and will most likely take a call on his ODI career after the 2017 Champions Trophy, sources close to him told TOI. India are scheduled to play the Champions Trophy next year in England in June.
Sources close to him confirmed that the Jharkhand cricketer won't bow out of ODI cricket just yet. Dhoni had expressed the desire to assess his form and fitness at the end of 2016, but after the New Zealand series win, he is already looking at the 2017 Champions Trophy.
Dhoni retired from Test cricket in 2014 to extend his career in shorter versions of the game. His teammate, fast bowler Ashish Nehra, backed Dhoni to go all the way to 2019 World Cup.
"By the time it's time for the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni's age would close to 38, but these days age isn't a factor.Look at Pakistani players like Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq. They are still playing international cricket past the age of 40. And as far as Dhoni is concerned, he is fit enough to go on till 2019," Nehra told TOI.
"I don't see any reason why Dhoni should retire from international cricket. After the New Zealand ODI series, he will get more than two months to rest and come back fresh for the ODIs against England.
Dhoni will be fitter in the series against England than what you saw in the series against the Kiwis," Nehra said.
Even former selector Vikram Rathore batted for Dhoni to play on till the next 50-over World Cup. "Dhoni can definitely play on if he wants to. I don't see any issue with his fitness. He is actually looking fitter than what I have seen earlier. If Nehra can come back at the age of 37, Dhoni can also do it. Remember, age is just a number," Rathore explained. Former team director Ravi Shastri also said that Dhoni should keep on playing till he enjoys the game."Dhoni is at par with greats like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. He is a big player and has it in him to play till the 2019. He is the kind of player who won't be around if he is not able to deliver for India. He has played cricket on his own terms and will continue to do so," Shastri added.
Former stumper Kiran More shared the sentiment.
"Fitness is the key issue when it comes to international cricket. Dhoni does not need to worry about that.His chances of playing till 2019 is very bright. India will need Dhoni and I am sure he is not going to walk away just like that."
And rightly so. If the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir -the heroes of the 2011 World Cup -are aiming to play the 2019 World Cup, why can't Dhoni?

Hardik Pandya included for first two England Tests

All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been named in the Indian squad for the first two Tests as the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the 15-member squad in Mumbai for the five-match Test series at home against England.
Gautam Gambhir retained his spot in the squad after KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan failed to recover from their injuries. Karun Nair has retained in the Test squad in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who suffered a hamstring injury during the ODI series against New Zealand.
India are currently ranked No.1 in the world after thrashing New Zealand 3-0 at home last month. This series though is expected to be a stiffer test for the home side after England beat them 2-1 in 2012 on their previous tour. The visitors will head into the first Test on November 9 in Rajkot without playing any warmup matches after having played a two-match series in Bangladesh recently which ended 1-1. Following the first Test, the teams are scheduled to play four more matches in Visakhapatnam, Mohali, Mumbai and Chennai.

Anime is permeating into sports real quick.Russian figure skaters and Japanese Olympic hopefuls are not the only athletic anime fans - NBA stars love anime too!
For those that don't know, the NBA is the professional basketball league in the U.S. and it's one of the four major sports in the country.

It's like Kuroko no Basket, but in real life.
Now, it's fairly common for sport reporters to ask players from all around the league if they have been watching any of the games, provided they weren't playing.
Steven Adams, the starting center for the Oklahoma City Thunder (same position as Atsushi Murasakibara from Kuroko no Basket) revealed that instead of watching the opening night games, he was busy watching anime. One Piece and One Punch Man to be specific.

Next FreeDish auction after MPEG4 operationalisation
With MPEG4 under final trials and existing channels having received extensions for their licences, the next e-auction of Doordarshan FreeDish will only take place around February 2017.
Doordarshan had, early last month, formally announced that its free-to-air direct-to-home (FTA DTH) platform was capable of carrying 104 television channels and 24 channels would be added to the existing 80 channels after the launch of MPEG4 technology.
While three new channels were added in an auction held over two days in mid-October, 24 got their year-long extensions. DD officials also confirmed that FreeDish will soon be capable of carrying up to 250 channels.
In line with the ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’, DD has decided to implement Indian CAS (iCAS) on DD FreeDish Platform. iCAS (which is an initiative of the central government) is being introduced in 24 MPEG-4 channels. The introduction of iCAS will provide enhanced viewing experience.
DD officials said these additional 24 MPEG-4 SDTV channels will be available to viewers in FTA mode. The existing viewers will continue to get 80 SDTV channels, but will have to obtain iCAS-enabled authorised set-top boxes for accessing all 104 channels.
Although FreeDish will remain free to air with no monthly or periodic fee, the viewers will be required to register with DD FreeDish on getting the new STB from Doordarshan authorised STB dealers.
Slots on DD FreeDish are allocated to private channels through a transparent system of e-auction. DD earned Rs 980 million in 2014-15, Rs 1800 million in 2015-16, and Rs 1040 million till September in 2016-17. The 31st auction brought Rs 1293 million (Rs 129 crore ) last month.
FreeDish was launched with a modest bouquet of 33 channels in December 2004, and now carries eighty TV channels and 32 radio channels. This includes 22 Doordarshan channels and two parliamentary channels.
DD officials said implementation of iCAS and authorisation of STB original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by Doordarshan will give a major thrust to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’. At present, a majority of STBs are imported. However, the introduction of iCAS will help in standardization of STBs and encourage quality STB manufacturing in India.

MIB grants one TV channel licence in September, cancels 11
MUMBAI: The process of awarding TV licences has virtually come to a grinding halt with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) granting just one TV channel licence in September.
The MIB has awarded non-news uplinking licence to Sky Star Entertainment under the name Sky Star. The licence is for English, Hindi and all-India scheduled languages.
The ministry has also cancelled the downlinking licences of 11 TV channels. Ten of these licences belonged to Fox Channels India and NGC Network India while one belonged to Day Star Television Network India under the name Daystar Television Network.
Daystar Television Network is an American network dedicated to spreading Christianity all around the globe, through all media formats.
Fox Channels India and NGC Network India are affiliate companies of 21st Century Fox-promoted Star India network.
Fox Channels India and NGC Network have surrendered their downlinking licences to theMIB since NGC Network India had received fresh uplinking licences from the ministry last year.
The company had received nine uplinking licences, namely National Geographic, Fox Life, Fox Life HD, Baby TV HD, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Wild HD, Nat Geo People HD, Nat Geo Music HD and National Geographic HD.
Thus, the infotainment channels of Fox have been consolidated under NGC Network. The channels were earlier being uplinked from Hong Kong.
Earlier, the licences were split between Fox Channels India and NGC Network India. The downlinking licences of Baby TV, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Music, National Geographic HD, Nat Geo People, Net Geo Wild HD and Nat Geo People HD were held under Fox Channels India. Three downlinking licences, namely National Geographic, Fox Life and Fox Life HD, were held by NGC Network India.
Until 30 September 2016, the government has granted permission to 1,042 channels. The permission to 161 channels has been cancelled so far. The total number of permitted TV channels stand at 881. Out of these, 399 are news and current affairs channels and 482 are non-news and current affairs channels.
The MIB has permitted 772 channels to uplink from India as well as to downlink into India while 22 channels have been permitted to only uplink from India. Eighty-seven channels have permission to only downlink into India.
