Sony acquires broadcast, digital rights to Bangladesh Premier League 2016

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) has announced the acquisition of the broadcast and digital rights to the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Known as the biggest cricket extravaganza in Bangladesh, the tournament commenced on 4 November, and will be telecast on Sony Six and Sony Six HD as well as streamed live on the Sony Liv app and website.
The on-air broadcast rights include the telecast of 43 live matches of the tournament in the Indian sub-continent. Along with live streaming, Sony Liv will be providing fans with a lot of exclusive video-on-demand (VOD) content like highlights, best sixes, best catches, fielding and more.
BPL 2016, which is now in its fourth season, has grown in popularity with each edition. The tournament is played in the T20 format and will feature seven teams including six teams from the previous season and one new franchise from Khulna and Rajshahi. Apart from Khulna and Rajarshi, the other teams are Comilla Victorians, Barisal Bulls, Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Dynamites and Chittagong Vikings.
This season of the tournament will see the likes of some of the biggest names in cricket—Dwayne Bravo, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Dwayne Smith.
The first match of BPL 2016 will be played between Rajshahi Kings and Comilla Victorians at Dhaka. The top four teams from the group stage will qualify for the knockout stage, which includes the semi-finals, the eliminator and the final match. The semi-finals will take place on 8 December and the final will be played on 9 December in Dhaka.

Following our previous offerings of Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, South African T20 league and Karnataka Premier League, we are pleased to announce the addition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to our T20 cricket portfolio. The BPL line-up is particularly impressive with international cricketers like Chris Gayle, Thisara Perera, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo and more that our viewers can look forward to.”

Sony Le Plex HD to premiere 'Ex Machina'

Sony Le Plex HD is all geared up to air the TV premiere of the Oscar award winning film Ex Machina. The movie will air on 6 November at 1 pm and 9 pm.
Extending its promise of keeping the audience hooked to mega premieres, the channel is showcasing this film for cine-lovers, making their weekend entertaining.
Directed by Alex Garland, the movie is a psychological and cerebral thriller featuring Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Sonoya Mizuno. The movie is about a unique scientific experiment where the emotions and intelligence of a female robot are assessed by interacting with her. As the movie progresses, it sees a turn of events when Caleb played by Gleeson realizes that he is the human component chosen for a test that evaluates the capabilities of artificial intelligence. When his bond with Ava played by Vikander grows and things do not go as planned, the situations turn more deceptive than anyone’s imagination.
The movie highlights high quality visual effects and gives a peek into the future. It has also been nominated for several awards functions and has bagged many accolades

Digital India: IITians to coach students via free DTH

It is not just for entertainment. It's for education too. Professors from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will be giving coaching classes to engineering aspirants through four DTH channels from January 1, taking the concept of Digital India to another level and reducing the dependency on coaching institutes.
These channels will be available free of cost through Doordarshan's FreeDish DTH platform, and the aspirants will only have to secure a Set-Top Box to watch these channels, PTI has reported.
IIT-PAL (Professor Assisted Learning) initiative will reduce dependence on coaching centres and also reach out to the students who are living in rural areas and cannot afford to pay the fee for expensive crash courses.
IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao said that a team of 40 professors from various IITs had compiled 200-hour lectures for each subject covering the entire syllabus of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). There were several coaching institutes claiming to be providing easy tricks to crack the exam and not every aspirant could afford to join them, he added.
He added that the faculty members would be joined by teachers from various Kendriya Vidyalyas in imparting these lessons to the aspirants and the focus will be more on concepts.

Mustafizur Rahman named in Bangladesh's preparatory squad

Bangladesh Cricket Board, on Friday (November 4), named Mustafizur Rahman in a 22-man preparatory squad that will train in Australia next month before flying to New Zealand for a tour that comprises of three One-Day Internationals, as many Twenty20 Internationals and two Tests.
The left-arm paceman, who sustained an injury while playing for Sussex last season, is recuperating after undergoing surgery on an injured shoulder in August.
He, along with 21 others, including the likes of uncapped players like Tanveer Haider, Ebadat Hossain and Nazmul Hossain Shant, will fly to Australia a day after the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League 2016.The squad will have a 10-day training camp in Sydney before commencing their New Zealand tour.
The prominent names to miss out on being named in the squad are Rubel Hossain, Nasir Hossain, Al-Amin Hossain, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Mosharraf Hossain.

Zee TV retains title as the Most Attractive Media – TV Brand for 2016

                            Zee TV has retained its position as the Most Attractive Media – TV Brand for 2016, as per TRA Research report. MTV has leaped from its 18th position in the category listing of 2015 to the second position this year. Star Plus, 2015’s second Most Attractive Media – TV Brand, has slipped to the third place. Hindi news channel Aaj Tak is ranked fourth in the category and is India’s 154th Most Attractive Brand in the overall listings. 
                               It is closely followed by media cluster brand NDTV in the fifth place. Ranked sixth in the list is the Hindi GEC Colors TV, which has a 64% lower attractiveness quotient compared to the previous brand. Another Hindi GEC, SAB TV, follows in the seventh place. Hindi news channels Zee News, ABP News and India TV have been ranked eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.
                                  Marathi news channel IBN Lokmat and Telugu news channel Sakshi TV are the only regional channels in the top 20 list. Public broadcaster DD is at the 20th spot. Among international news brands, BBC is ahead of CNN at the 15th position. HBO is at the 14th position. Disney Channel is the only kids channel in the list. ESPN, which is present in the country through its tie-up with Sony Pictures Networks India, is the only sports TV brand in the list at the 13th position.

Bebaq. Bekhauf set to change; TV18 to revamp IBN7 on 9 Nov

 Owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, Network18 Media and Investments has a thorough makeover on the cards, again. After successfully revamping its English news channel CNN-IBN to CNN-News18 earlier this year, the network is in the middle of a rebranding and content-refreshing exercise for its Hindi news channel IBN 7.
A company official has confirmed the news with indiantelevision.com that the new brand name and logo will be announced on 9 November. Currently, the media network is running several teasers on the channel about a big announcement.
The channel’s new name will also adopt News18 element shedding its old IBN brand which stands for Indian Broadcasting Network. Its current tagline - Bebaq. Bekhauf - will also change.
Besides the rebranding, the channel will also unveil its fresh programming.
In an earlier interview with indiantelevision.com, IBN News Network chief executive officer Avinash Kaul had said, “You will see us relooking at the entire IBN7 proposition in 3-4 months. That is also on the cards but we are looking at one thing at a time."
