After recently unveiling the Coolpad Note 5 in India, the company is now set to introduce two new smartphones — the Coolpad Note 3S and Mega 3 on November 30. The Note 3S is a successor to the Note 3 which was launched in 2015 while the Mega 3 will succeed the Mega 2.5D which debuted in India earlier this year. The company’s media invite does not reveal much about the two smartphones. However, given the price range of the predecessors, the Coolpad Note 3S and the Coolpad Mega 3, in all likelihood, will be budget smartphones.
Based on earlier reports, the two smartphones are most likely be 4G VoLTE enabled. They are further expected to sell through Amazon India through which previous Coolpad smartphones have been launched before.
Coolpad Note 3S specifications
Although details about the upcoming smartphones are scarce at best, based on speculations, the Coolpad Note 3S is expected to feature the same display as its predecessor at 5.5-inches offering HD resolution. The predecessor, Coolpad Note 3, featured a 13-megapixel rear camera coupled with a 5-megapixel front sensor. We could expect the successor to bring in a slight bump in terms of camera specification. It is further speculated that the Coolpad Note 3S will support dual SIM with 4G/LTE. The smartphone is rumored to 3GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage.
To give an idea, the Coolpad Note 3 is powered by a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 3GB of RAM. It further includes 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable using a microSD card. Backed by a 3,000mAh battery, the smartphone offers connectivity options including dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. In terms of software, the Coolpad Note 3 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with CoolUI 6.0 layered atop. The budget smartphone is priced at Rs 8,999.
Coolpad Mega 3 specifications
On the other hand, the Coolpad Mega 3 is also expected to boast the same display as its predecessor Mega 2.5D which features a 5.5-inch HD display and a metal unibody design. The Coolpad Mega 2.5D, priced at Rs 6,999, is powered by a MediaTek MT67355P 64-bit quad-core chipset clocked at 1GHz, paired with Mali T720 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It further includes 16GB of internal storage along with microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB. It also includes support for USB OTG (on-the-go).
On the camera front, the predecessor comes with 8-megapixel rear and front camera. Connectivity options include dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11n, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. It is fuelled by a 2,500mAh battery. Given that the Coolpad Mega 3 will be an evident upgrade to the 2.5D model, we can expect some improvements especially in term of camera and battery.
These budget smartphones, if priced under Rs 10,000 will be competing against a host of other affordable smartphones in the category including tested performers such as the Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime, LeEco Le1S, and Lenovo K5 Plus.
