Quikr launches Dazzlr to organise film industry
![[Image: 349338cf2ef014a5fffcbae7cec44250.jpg]](http://www.imgpuppy.com/images/2016/09/01/349338cf2ef014a5fffcbae7cec44250.jpg)
Quikr announced the launch of Dazzlr, a talent discovery platform that brings together Actors, Casting Professionals, Directors and Producers. Available on both Android and iOS, Dazzlr is aimed at organizing casting and talent discovery that will address the needs of the film industry in India and beyond. The Indian media and entertainment sector alone is expected to become a US$ 29.11 billion by 2019.
The platform has been developed by Quikr in partnership with Vivek Bohra, a third generation Film Maker and renowned Casting Director, Aadore Mukherjee. It offers tailored solutions to cater to the unique needs of both artists and casting professionals for a variety of entertainment formats such as cinema, television, theatre, advertising, regional and international film production. Based in Mumbai, Dazzlr currently has a strong team of professionals that will operate as an independent entity under the Quikr umbrella.
Talking about the launch Pranay Chulet, Founder & CEO Quikr said, “Right from our early days, we’ve had entertainment as a category in Quikr. It gets half a million monthly unique visitors without any marketing because of the sheer size of India’s media and entertainment industry. Artists are always looking for projects, aspirants are always looking for a break and production houses are always looking for talent. Technology can be a huge enabler in this marketplace as I’ve seen in my own experience in this space in the past. We’re tremendously excited about this opportunity to help bring more structure to this large, multilingual industry that touches every corner of India.”
Sharing his enthusiasm about the announcement, Vivek Bohra, Writer, Director and Dazzlr Co-Founder said, “This is just a first step in Dazzlr’s journey to help organize the unorganized segments of the entertainment industry. We have worked closely with the product and technology teams at Quikr to ensure that Dazzlr caters to the unique needs of our peers in the film industry. While we begin with getting ease and transparency to casting and discoverability for industry professionals, we are sure that the road ahead is going to see many more divisions of the entertainment industry becoming more transparent and organized”.
Casting Director, Aadore Mukherjee further added, “Dazzlr is the culmination of months of hard work and years of experience in the film industry. We have kept the approach very professional and have created a platform that helps aspiring actors get the attention they deserve. The response so far has been very encouraging and in barely a couple of weeks of testing, we have over 70 casting directors, production houses, advertising agencies and close to 2000 artists using the platform across India. Dazzlr has already helped to cast commercials for Axis Bank and Dark Fantasy Chocolates. Just like my upcoming film Baar Baar Deko which features cast from the UK. I expect Dazzlr to create an impact for talent internationally as well.”
Dazzlr allows budding actors to list for free with a fee to apply for select roles. The platform enables production houses and casting directors to post their requirements and browse through artist portfolios to bookmark and call them for auditions. Some of its unique features for artists include provisions for video and image uploads to build a portfolio and notifications to help them stay updated on opportunities in upcoming screen roles.

Viacom18 completes merger of Prism TV
Mumbai: Viacom18 has completed merger of Prism TV Private Limited, thereby integrating five regional channels – Colors Kannada, Colors Marathi, Colors Bangla, Colors Odiya and Colors Gujarati within its fold.
Commenting on the merger, Viacom18 CEO Sudhanshu Vats said, “The regional entertainment broadcast pie commands ~30% viewership in the Indian broadcast space and as consumer preferences are moving towards segmented regional content, this share is only going to grow. This merger allows us to create a single brand that can leverage the individual strengths of the regional channels and harness synergies in terms of content strategy and business processes, helping us amplify long term value for Viacom18. I am particularly pleased that this process has been completed at an opportune time when we are gearing up to celebrate our 10th anniversary, in 2017, with a bigger and unified Team Viacom18.”
With this merger, not only the regional brands but also the Prism TV workforce will become part of Viacom18 and be assimilated seamlessly into its cultural ethos.
Viacom18 had recently launched Colors Super, its second Kannada GEC, further strengthening its share in the Kannada market which it already dominates with Colors Kannada. With this merger, the network seems poised to significantly dial up its regional play at a time when the regional GEC genre is fast emerging as the next ‘big thing’ in the Indian broadcast sector.

Reliance Jio 4G Plans, SIM Activations, Network Launch
Reliance Jio, the multi-billion dollar telecom venture of Reliance Industries, is finally opening up its network to all users. The launch was announced at the Reliance AGM by Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday, who said anyone can now get a Jio SIM, adding the network will be free to use for all until December 31.
(Also see: Reliance Jio Plans List, Including Ones Mukesh Ambani Didn't Show on Stage)
There's a lot more to more to Reliance Jio than just cheaper data access though, and here's everything you should know about the network:
1. Reliance Jio is 4G only
The Reliance Jio network is running entirely on 4G - not "mostly 2G, sometimes 3G, and once-in-a-while 4G," Ambani said, taking a dig at other networks. To access the network, you need a 4G compatible phone with VoLTE support. Reliance Retail's lineup of Lyf phones offer a low cost option, starting from Rs. 2,999, though you can buy any phone that supports VoLTE and use it.
If you are not ready to move away from your current phone, you can buy the JioFi portable Wi-Fi hotspot at Rs. 1,999 and take advantage of Jio's plans as long as your phone supports Wi-Fi.
(Also see: Reliance JioFi Device - How to Buy, Price, Plans, and Everything You Need to Know)
2. 100 percent VoLTE
Reliance Jio is also a 100 percent VoLTE network - the largest in the world, according to Ambani. VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE, by which you make voice calls over the data network. As an end user, nothing is really different - you still dial a number just like you always would, and during the preview offer at least, connections have been clear and reliable. But at the backend, even voice calls use data, compared to non-VoLTE networks, that treat data and voice differently.
(Also see: Reliance Jio SIM Available to Everyone From September 5, Free to Use Till December 31)
3. Everything is free till January 1, 2017
Although Reliance Jio plans were revealed on Thursday, everything is going to be completely free for users until December 31, 2016. Jio's data, voice, and video along with the full bouquet of applications and content will be available fully free for everyone, until the end of the year. Ambani called this Jio's Welcome Offer, which will enable everyone to try out Jio without spending any money. This will also allow users to get comfortable with the various applications that Jio is offering, and Jio will use this period to test interconnections with other operators and to get feedback from customers.
4. 18,000 cities and 2 lakh villages
Jio's a new network, but its reach is already pretty wide - according to Ambani, the Reliance Jio network already covers 18,000 cities and towns, and over 2 lakh villages.
5. To cover 90 percent of India by March 2017
Although it is already covering a large number of cities and villages, that doesn't mean that Jio's rollout has completed yet. It still has some ways to go to cover all of India, and the next target is to reach 90 percent of the population by March 2017, Ambani added.

DD sets up 'War Room' to revitalise programming & revenues
Fazed by stagnant viewership and battling a “negative perception”, Doordarshan has set up a strategy ‘War Room’ to look into re-vitalising the pubcaster’s marketing and content acquisition processes with an overall aim to enhance revenues.
The crisis management group, set up under the overall stewardship of DD Director-General Supriya Sahu, is mandated to suggest ways to attract and invite fresh talent for various DD channels in view of depleting manpower, new marketing and programming strategies and shore up the bottomlines via innovative marketing.
Elaborating on the need for a crisis management group, the DG said in an office order: “Dive deep into the issues that are adversely impacting our performance and devise a strategy to re-position ourselves... (hence) it is proposed to set up a strategy 'War Room' in the office of Director-General.”
According to Sahu, who has taken over the new role at DD few months back after having done a fruitful stint at Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), the `War Room’ will study rules and regulations for in-house production and suggest measures to modify them to improve programming for DD National and regional channels.
The office order doesn’t mince words when it goes on to add that new programming strategy should look at revamping how programmes and films are acquired for DD channels--- especially for the auction slots --- and suggest credible methods to improve viewership (audience measurement) and enhance revenues.
In addition, this group is to deliberate on present marketing initiatives of DD, which experts feel are out-dated, and devise new strategies to revitalise it, apart from suggesting innovative ways to pool resources and synergise efforts for maximising DD's impact.
Sahu has made it clear that since there cannot be a one-shoe-fits-all approach, the `War Room’ has to come up with programming and marketing strategies that is specific to each channel like DD National, DD Kisan, DD Bharati, DD India (the international channel), DD Urdu, DD Kashir and DD Sports.
Dwelling on the negative perception relating to the overall functioning of DD, especially content acquisition policies and marketing processes, Sahu said in the office order, “We need to change this perception. This would happen through a very strategic thinking, planning, implementation & initiation.”
The `War Room’ would end its work later this month when it is expected to submit a report on ways to reboot DD, which, hopefully, would also resonate with parent Prasar Bharati’s bosses.
Headed by Deputy Director of Programmes G Sajan, the other members of this group include P.K. Srivastava, PEX, DDK-Raipur; Sandeep Sood, ADP, DDK-Pune; Anurag Darshan, Programme Executive (PEX) DD National; Abhishek Dubey, Advisor DD Sports; Ms. Soma Bose, Consultant, Films Division; Sanjeev Rai, Production Assistant, DD Urdu; Tathagat, Creative Editor, DD Bharati; Karmdeep, Senior Content Manager, DD Sports; Birupakhya Goutom Phukan, Senior Programmer and Arjun Mehto, Senior Content Manager.
