Shikhar Dhawan turns 31: His top 5 performances

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who is currently struggling with form and fitness issues, turned 31 on Monday. Here’s a look at some of his memorable performances in international cricket.

187 on Test debut vs Australia: His Test career may be at the crossroads as of now, but his start was nothing short of sensational. At Mohali, in March 2013, he was all over a hapless Aussie attack, en route to creating history. After Australia had posted an impressive 408 on the board batting first, India responded with 499 thanks in main to Dhawan’s stupendous 187. Dhawan smashed the runs off merely 174 balls, and blasted 33 fours and two sixes. Murali Vijay contributed a well-compiled 153 as India went on to win the Test by six wickets.

115 vs New Zealand at Auckland: This was a brilliant innings under pressure, albeit in a losing cause, in the first Test of the series in New Zealand. India were chasing an improbable 407 to win the Test, and got to 366, thanks in main to Dhawan’s brilliant innings. He made 115 from 211 balls with 12 fours and a six. Neil Wagner’s 4 for 62 made the difference. This was the same match in which Brendon McCullum blasted a memorable 224 from 307 balls, and was the man of the match.

114 vs South Africa at Cardiff: This knock came during the Champions Trophy in June 2013. India batted first and posted a healthy 331 for 7. Dhawan led the way with a brilliant 114 from merely 94 balls with 12 fours and a six at a strike rate of 121.27. Rohit Sharma made 56 as the openers added 127. Dhawan was at his free-flowing best. And, although South Africa crossed 300, it was Dhawan’s knock that made the difference.

100 vs Australia at Nagpur: This was the sixth match of the high-scoring ODI series played in India in 2013. Dhawan’s 100 from 102 balls was among the chief contributions as India chased down 351. He hit 11 fours during his breezy knock. Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 115 from 66 balls in the same contest while George Bailey made 156 and Shane Watson 102.

137 vs South Africa at MCG: This knock came at the 2015 World Cup where Dhawan was widely expected to struggle. Instead, he was India’s most consistent performer with the bat. Against South Africa in the league game, he stood up with 137 from 146 on his home ground. The knock featured 16 fours and two sixes. Thanks to Dhawan’s brilliance, India made 307 for 7. The bowlers then kept South Africa down to 177 as India won by an impressive margin of 130 runs.

Aircel’s New FRC148 Prepaid Plan Offers Unlimited Free Voice Calling for 3 Months

Aircel on Monday launched a new plan for prepaid customers in Delhi NCR, called FRC148. The new Aircel plan costs Rs. 148, and is valid for three months or 90 days. It offers unlimited local and STD 'on-net' calls, which means Aircel to Aircel, apart from off-net and data benefits.

As for the off-net calls, or Aircel to another operator, the Aircel new plan offers free calls for 15,000 seconds per month, which translates to 250 minutes per month. After the free usage is expired, the 'off-net' calling rates will revert to Rs. 0.30 per minute. Coming to the data benefits, the company says the FRC148 plan will give unlimited 2G data for one month, but with a 500MB FUP.

Aircel says the customer will have to recharge for minimum Rs. 50 in second and third month for any of the Aircel services to continue the call benefits.

Aircel Regional Manager - North Harish Sharma said the recent drop in the average selling price of smartphones has led to an explosion in the adoption of smartphones among Indians.
"More and more Indians are using mobile for calling (Voice) as well as surfing/sharing online (Internet/data). Aircel recognises the trend of customers becoming a multi-service user hence it becomes imperative to introduce fully loaded combo packs which is a solution to their evolving communication needs," Sharma said.

Huawei, the most profitable Android manufacturer in Q3, released the Enjoy 6 smartphone back in October. Despite being on the market for less than two months, the device already has a “successor”.

In partnership with China Mobile today, Huawei took the wraps off the slightly improved Enjoy 6s. The device comes with a 5-inch 720p IPS display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and 3 GB of RAM.
It offers double the storage at 32 GB when compared with the original Enjoy 6 and packs a 13 MP primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture. Meanwhile, the front-facing selfie snapper has a 5 MP sensor.

Unfortunately, the battery has been downgraded to 3,020 mAh from 4,100 mAh. But then again, the newly announced Enjoy 6s is a bit thinner than its slightly older brother, as its metal body is only 7.6 mm thick. The device also has dual-SIM capabilities and makes sure that your data is safe thanks to the fingerprint scanner located on the back, below the camera.
The Enjoy 6s should soon be available in China, but Huawei has not given an exact time frame as to when this might happen. Available in gold, silver, and white, it will retail for CNY 1,599, which is around $235 or €215. Although not stated specifically by the company, we expect that the device will not be released in Western markets.
Do you like the new Huawei Enjoy 6s? Would you consider buying one if it would be available in your country? Let us know.

Google Play Store testing separate Games sections for some users

$

The Google Play Store has historically lumped Apps and Games into one section, but that could be changing in the very near future. Some Android users have reported their version of the Play Store now shows Apps and Games as separate selections on the main interface page.

The new layout was first reported by Android Police. It may be a very simple change in the UI of the Play Store, but for many people it will be a highly welcome one. With so many apps and games to choose from, placing everything in one section is a pretty cluttered approach and so it’s great to see Google is finally doing something about it.

There’s no indication on when Google plans to make this Play Store interface change available for all Android users, but since it has already started popping up for some of users, it hopefully shouldn’t take too long for it to roll out to everyone else.
What do you think of the change? Any other major Play store UI changes you’d like to see from Google? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Bluetooth 5's faster, longer-ranged wireless is here

$

Bluetooth is about to become a lot less hassle-prone. The wireless standard's Special Interest Group has officially adopted the Bluetooth 5spec, clearing the way for device makers to use the much-improved technology in everything from phones to wearables to smart home equipment. This doesn't mean that you'll see it right away, of course. The group expects Bluetooth 5-equipped products to hit the market in the next 2 to 6 months, or right around when the next wave of smartphones is likely to arrive.

Again, the new spec is all about raw performance. You can expect up to four times the range, twice the speed and eight times the amount of data in broadcast messages. Those will be particularly helpful for smart appliances and the Internet of Things, where the existing Bluetooth 4.2 standard might not be powerful enough to connect an entire home. However, it should also make a difference anywhere that you notice Bluetooth's existing limitations. Smartwatches could see a serious upgrade, for example -- one of the biggest bottlenecks on wristwear is the slow connection to your phone. And regardless of the device you use, there are techniques to reduce interference with other wireless devices.
Just don't expect much of a boost to audio quality. While Bluetooth 5 could help with range, you won't see improvements to audio compression, latency and power use until 2018. The newly adopted format is primarily about dragging Bluetooth's range and speed into the modern era, and future efforts will build on top of that groundwork.
