Star World Premiere HD to air ‘This is Us’ Christmas special
With Christmas right around the corner, Star World Premiere HD is all set to play Santa with the mid-season finale of ‘This is Us’, a Christmas special episode that keeps with the show’s tradition to make audiences laugh, cry and swoon, all at the same time.
The mid-season finale, titled ‘Last Christmas’, is directed by Oscar-winner Helen Hunt of ‘As Good as It Gets’, ‘What Women Want’, ‘Cast Away’ and ‘Project X’ fame. It will air in India on Star World Premiere HD this Saturday, 10 December at 10 pm. The episode showcases Christmas celebrated by the Pearson family back when Jack was alive and in the present time.
“I thought that it was one of our best-written episodes of the season. I felt the way in which we flipped the structure writing-wise—it functions like six one-act plays, instead of going back and forth between the storylines through the show—gives it a breadth that you’re constantly wondering what’s going to happen next. Are we staying with this story line? Are we not going to see everybody today? And then, slowly but surely, we see the cast unfold until we all come together at the end of a pretty nice Christmas—for the most part,” says Sterling K Brown, who plays a pivotal role in ‘This is US’.
The episode opens in the past where Kate comes down with appendicitis on Christmas Eve and so, the Pearsons take her to the hospital. As they stand by during Kate’s surgery, the family runs into Dr K, the doctor who delivered Kate and Kevin, who they realise needs some faith and support since he is dying.
Meanwhile in the present, Kevin is at the Hanukkah celebration with Sloane’s family. Kate and Rebecca visit a doctor to discuss the life-changing surgery that Kate wants to go through. There is a shocking reveal about William’s sexuality and Toby collapses and is taken under surgery immediately.
‘This is Us’ stars Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K Brown and Chrissy Metz.

Zee unveils marketing plan of English news channel WION
After its soft launch in August this year, global English news network WION – World is One News’ announced its formal launch with the massive roll-out of a 360-degree marketing campaign titled ‘WION – Be One With the World’.
The multi-city campaign will take off across various platforms including television, print, radio, OOH, DTH and digital.
Leveraging the network strength, WION will further amplify its launch through a roadblock on more than 40 channels of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) and Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) on 9 December. Phase I of the marketing campaign will focus on the India market, and it will gradually extend to other markets across the world in Phase II.
WION is a global news network that brings news from around the world but with a South Asian view. “The goal of the channel is to engage and empower viewers through balanced and extraordinary storytelling,” an official release said.
The channel aims to explore and understand the stake of South Asian region in world affairs by pushing the boundaries of innovation on digital, mobile and television platforms.
ZMCL executive director and COO Rajiv Singh said: “A revolutionary product from the Zee Media stable, WION represents a sophisticated transition from the usual ‘Breaking News’ phenomenon. WION brings exclusive and insightful content that often escapes popular media. Targeting upscale viewers in India as well as the Indian diaspora, our endeavour is to showcase content that truly represents the spirit of South Asia with focus on India. Embracing our philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The World is My Family’, through WION we believe that news will be the common thread that binds us all together.”
The editorial team consists of experienced journalists, researchers and analysts with global exposure. With bureaus in 37 global locations, WION has international reach and multi-cultural staff adding local perspective to every global news story. WION is the first India-based network to have its presence in regions like UK, USA, China, Russia and Africa making it South Asia’s first truly convergent, multi-media English News Network.
Sharing more details on the channel, WION editor-in-chief Rohit Gandhi said: “In an increasingly divided and violent world, the content at WION is carefully curated keeping in mind the sensitivities of all regional identities. While the news genre already has different filters – American, British and Middle-East, there is no South Asian lens that helps the world understand the South Asian perspective on world affairs; WION aims to bridge this gap. WION targets a generation that is global, social, value-oriented, visual and technologically savvy. We tell stories relevant to a wider global audience and to the millennial generation that consumes news on the go. The news at WION is easy to consume without sacrificing in-depth analysis of issues.”
Gandhi further added: “While neutrality is journalism’s prime directive, and nothing comes between that, our TV and web platforms do have separate places set aside to foster positivity and inspiration culled from real life. WION Edge and Konversation are online series for sharing positive stories of people from India and around the world. On TV, whether it’s the on-location reporter, our anchors or guests, the conversation is always calm and orderly, with everyone given a chance to speak.”
WION offers an experience that is beyond news. It has a variety of content appealing to both younger and mature audience.
WION will not only offer news, but also general entertainment content covering genres like lifestyle, human stories, animals, food, environment and fashion among others.
“The presentation of content is innovative with use of visuals, timelines, graphics, on-ground live coverages, 360-degree interactive videos, flying drones and story app,” an official release said.
The channel has interactive content to encourage participation from the viewer’s end. A big focus of the platform is on user generated content through its ‘Citizen-Journalism App.’
WION’s programming consists of a diverse line-up of shows from all genres. The marquee shows on the channel comprise:
The channel is available across all DTH providers like like Dish TV (#605), Tata Sky (#628), Airtel (#386), Videocon d2h (#367), Reliance BIG TV (#459) , and other leading cable networks.

SonyLIV unveils its new brand identity and tagline
Sony Pictures Networks India’s video on demand (VoD) platform SonyLIV has unveiled a refreshed brand identity. The renewed brand ethos “We LIV to Entertain” promises to make SonyLIV the ultimate destination for rich entertainment across genres, screen types and audience preferences. With its new positioning, the brand underlines its commitment to fulfilling the most basic and pressing of human needs – that for robust, high-quality entertainment.
To complement its brand ethos, SonyLIV has also rolled out a new logo which encompasses a full spectrum of colours with a young, energetic and self-effacing approach. The logo itself represents the brand’s reinvigorated emphasis on filling the lives of viewers with vivid entertainment that covers the key aspects of variety, depth, novelty, relevance and popularity.
In order to create top-of-the-mind recall, SonyLIV has also launched a brand film which has been shot in Romania, the birthplace of the immortal circus – the genesis of interactive entertainment. At the heart of the film is the figure of the eternal entertainer, the clown and the message is driven home with the refrain Kamaal dikhaana, Kamaal ka kaam hai (It’s no mean feat to keep everyone entertained). Through the film, SonyLIV has positioned itself as the theatre of emotions which has the ability to amplify every feeling and thought of the viewer with engaging and evocative content.
Sony LIV EVP and Head – Digital Business Uday Sodhi said, “For the last four years, SonyLIV has enjoyed a pioneering and undisputed leadership position in India’s digital entertainment industry. As OTT content becomes more ubiquitous, it is time for us to renew our brand focus and differentiate ourselves on the key facets our viewers identify us by; that of providing them rich, stimulating and thought-provoking entertainment.”
“We pioneered the concept of original web-series in the country and have also been instrumental in bringing audiences closer to the most popular sporting action from across the world. We decided to, therefore, re-energise our brand identity in conjunction with these USPs and clearly establish SonyLIV as the ultimate provider of entertainment, irrespective of screen, genre or audience segment. Our new positioning, ‘We LIV to Entertain’ is sure to connect with one and all.”
