All good things come to an end!
Life OK’s big budget show Nagarjun – Ek Yoddha (Beyond Dreams) which started beaming mid 2016, is set to bid adieu to its viewers.
Yes, the above fantasy thriller based drama will air its last episode on 13 January (2017).
The show having a stellar starcast in Pearl V Puri, Pooja Bannerjee, Shruti Ulfat, Nikitin Dheer, Karishma Tanna and others, will wrap up shoot by first week of January, as per sources.
Touted to be a game changer in content space, Nagarjun hogged limelight for all the wrong reasons. Be it Nikitin Dheer’s initial exit over creative differences or lead Anshuman Malhotra’s unceremonious exit (Pearl came in as replacement), the show never took off from the ground in its flight for success.
Furthermore, Saurabh Tewari’s upcoming Ghulaam is expected to replace the above project.
So what will the end track be?
Like every other show, Nagarjun too will end on a happy note. Good will win over evil. Thus, Maskini (Karishma) and Astika’s (Nikitin) characters will die.
We connected Producer Yash Patnaik and the leads Pearl and Pooja but they all remained unavailable to comment.

TV storytelling needs same passion as films, says Sooraj Barjatya; to launch four sho

After a year, Rajshri Production is venturing again into television but this time not just with a single show. Rajshri plans to produce four shows in 2017 for Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs). Celebrating the courage and pride of a strong willed mother with which she empowers her daughter, Sooraj Barjatya recently launched its new offering with Colors, Ek Shringaar.. Swabhimaan.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com, Barjatya said, “I firmly believe that television needs the same passion as film-making. It is just that we all were busy with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. So now, we are back to storytelling on television.”

He further added, “This show on Colors is one of ours most progressive shows, in which we are trying to show the part of the society which all parents face. This is a story of a middle-class Indian mother, who wants to prove through her daughters, who are IIM and IIT toppers, that today's girls can be chairmen of companies and also run their household with equal pride and prowess. It’s time we encouraged them.”

The story of the finite show has been written by Sushil and Shilpa Choubey, the screenplay is by Nishikant and Pranjal and dialogues are Manu Sharma's. The music has been directed by Udbhav and Dony while lyrics have been penned by Raghvendra Singh.

Produced by Rajshri, the show will start from 19 December at 9.30pm time slot from Monday to Friday. The show is replacing Rashmi Sharma Telefilms’ Swaragini which was launched in March 2015.

The show highlights a mother’s determination in not only providing the best education for her daughters, but also in finding a suitable match for them in a family that values upbringing over materialistic pleasures. A household that will allow her daughters’ careers to flourish rather than tie them down to domesticity. Swabhimaan traces the story of two sisters as they pledge to fulfill their mother’s dream of becoming self-reliant and society’s expectations of being married at an acceptable age.

According to a source, the estimated per episode production cost of the show is in the range of Rs 9 -10 lakh. On the ad rates, Swabhimaan commands Rs 1 lakh for a 10-second slot, the source said.

Speaking about this new offering, Colors CEO Raj Nayak said, “We, as a society, often do not give enough credit to the women for the value they add to our lives. Though now we have opened up about educating the girl child, but still, when it comes to marriage, we find people wanting to clip their wings and confine them to a measly role. Our latest offering attempts to change that mindset. The show highlights the importance of being self-reliant and at the same time uphold the tradition and values of our culture. With Sooraj Barjatya’s magical touch and a platform such as Colors, Ek Shringaar…Swabhimaan with its vibrant backdrop is sure to strike a chord with the viewers.”

Further Colors programming head Manisha Sharma added, “The concept is unique simply because it questions the contrasting principles of our society. We are all about educating our daughters but how many households are actually open to letting their daughter-in-law’s pursue their careers? Here’s a strong willed mother who just has one request to the world – Allow my daughters to work. Don’t let their education go to waste. The show addresses this thought head-on by laying focus on values like self-respect and self-worth which have been inculcated through a mother’s upbringing. The show marks our first collaboration with Rajshri Productions whose penchant for beautiful storytelling and powerful narratives has gripped audience attention on television and in films; we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”

“The show looks promising and the storyline is good but the critical question to get ratings, do they have what it takes? Ratings comes only with certain things or you cut across emotionally with the audience. That connections needs to be there and they might change the track halfway down the line when

Balaji & Saaibaba bag prime time slots on DD National

Balaji Telefilms bid successfully for four slots, and Saai Baba Telefilms bagged two slots on Doordarshan’s prime time slot auctions, although financial statistics were not revealed. Bag Films and Media of Delhi, which had also been shortlisted, failed to pocket any slot.

However, Doordarshan sources said that, as the RFP (request for proposal) document had made it clear that no party could bid for more than three slots in a week, Balaji may lose one slot after full examination of the bids received.

No bid was received for three slots: 10 pm to 10.30 pm and 10.30 to 11 pm from Monday to Thursday, and for 7pm to 8pm slot on Sunday. Thus, the successful bids by Balaji are for 8 pm to 8.30 pm and 8.30 - 9pm from Monday to Friday, and 9 pm to 9.30 pm and 9.30 pm pm to 10.00 pm from Monday to Thursday.

Saai won the bids for 7.30 pm to 8 pm from Monday to Friday, and 8 pm to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Thus, Doordarshan has managed to get successful bidders in its third attempt since it announced its decision to auction the prime time slots early this year. Each time, DD had to make some concessions over its initial RFP.

After a Prasar Bharati Board meeting in October, Doordarshan had announced a series of concessions once the programmers come on board, including lowering the base price for a 30-minute slot to Rs. 1,50,000.

DD sources told indiantelevision.com that the only eligibility criterion that has been relaxed is that the basic price for auction has come down to Rs 1,50,000 (Rs 1.5 lakh) for a 30-minute slot. It was Rs 250.000 when the auction was announced in June this year, and was decreased to Rs 200,000 when the new date was set in early September 2016.

However, most of the other eligibility norms remain the same as earlier in the New Content Acquisition Scheme that has been approved by Prasar Bharati Board.

Producers/production houses that have produced at least 200 hours of general entertainment programming, including feature film productions in any Indian language in the last three years, and have a turnover of minimum Rs. 30 million per annum in the field of TV and film production in the last three financial years are eligible to apply.

Applicants for weekend slots in the genres of reality, game and quiz are required to have produced 100 hours of such content in the last three years. However, DD sources told indiantelevision.com that certain changes had been made for successful bidders to promote their programmes.

Successful bidders will now also be allowed to approach and obtain advertisements from public service undertaking for their programmes on Doordarshan, which was not permitted earlier. Doordarshan has also laid down a compulsory number of promotional commercials, which will be free, on various channels of Doordarshan network.

In addition, successful bidders will be allowed to ‘bank’ their free commercial time. That is, in case a successful bidder has not exhausted the number of promotional commercials (totalling 240 seconds) permitted before the telecast of a particular programme, the balance can be used as and when the programme picks up in popularity.

The exit option has also been relaxed: in case a producer decides to opt out of the scheme, he will need to give only 45 days notice instead of three months. The lock-in period for this has also been reduced from one year to six months.

Govt warning to TV channels on b'cast norms breach

$

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued warning to three different television channels over content that an inter-ministerial committee, appointed by it, felt was not as per broadcasting norms and a breach of content code, a PTI report stated.

In the first case, a television channel was issued a warning in an order dated 29 November, after it showed disturbing visuals of incidents of suicide in Kerala without adequately morphing them, as recorded in the ministry order.

In another instance, a warning was issued in an order dated 29 November to another channel which too allegedly did not adequately blur the visuals of a murder victim lying in a pool of blood.

Another channel was also issued a warning by the ministry over revealing the identity of a victim of sexual abuse and other content which did not confirm to the norms.

A couple of months back, as reported by Indiantelevision.com, MIB had issued a notice to NDTV channel suspending its telecast over alleged breach of content code relating to national security issues. The order was subsequently suspended owing to public and media pressure and criticism that the government was resorting to censorship of news in the garb of broadcasting norms breaches.

Samsung Galaxy S8 to feature Bluetooth 5.0 support: Report

$

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of the highly anticipated flagship smartphones, especially after the unfortunate debacle of the Galaxy Note 7. Even as Samsung asked its employees and suppliers to prevent Galaxy S8 leaks, the rumor mill can’t stop spilling beans.

Now, citing sources, SamMobile reports that the Galaxy S8 could be the first smartphone to support Bluetooth 5.0. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) recently finalized the specifications of the latest standard while mentioning that we could see it on devices in the next two to six months. It will offer twice the bandwidth, four times the range and eight times broadcast message capacity of Bluetooth 4.2 LE (low energy). Also, Bluetooth 5.0 can attain maximum speed of 2Mbps, compared to 1Mbps on its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy S8 specifications
Based on the leaks and rumors that we have come across so far, the Galaxy S8 is likely to boast an all-screen design, just like the Xiaomi Mi Mix. It could be offered in two screen sizes — 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch, with screen-to-body ratio above 90 percent. Also, while the Galaxy S7 comes in flat and curved edge display, the Galaxy S8 is likely to skip the flat variant. Talking about the resolution, rumors hint at Quad-HD resolution (1440x2560pixels). However, instead of using Diamond PenTile-based panel, the Galaxy S8 could come with an RGB Super AMOLED one. The display is likely to come with Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The Galaxy S8 could be powered by Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 835 SoC based on 10nm process for the US and Exynos 8895 for other regions, paired with 6GB or as much as 8GB of RAM. With 64GB and 128GB onboard storage options, Samsung may also offer 256GB variant in some markets.

To keep things ticking, a 4,200mAh battery with fast charging and wireless fast charging feature is likely to be in tow. In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy S8 could come with 4G LTE and VoLTE support, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. Other features such as the optical fingerprint sensor, an iris scanner, water and dust resistance and heart rate sensor are also expected. On the software front, the Galaxy S8 could boot Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. ALSO READ: Samsung may use its own fingerprint sensors on upcoming smartphones

In the photography department, the Galaxy S8 is likely to feature a dual-camera setup at the back. It could take advantage of Snapdragon’s clear sight technology and feature a 16-megapixel camera with RGB (color) sensor and 8-megapixel camera with a monochrome sensor. It is likely to be home grown and engineered by SEMCO. The company also recently filed an application for new term called ‘Smart AF,’ and the Galaxy S8 is rumored to feature a selfie camera with auto-focus feature.

Samsung recently acquired Viv Labs, the company that originally built Siri, and the next-gen AI assistant, the same could feature on the Galaxy S8. The male and female versions of the assistant could be called Bixby and Kestra. However, with Android Nougat 7.1 on board, it remains to be seen if it will come with support for Google Assistant, or Samsung will go ahead with its own AI assistant.

MUMBAI: Doordarshan’s hit show ‘Chandrakanta’, which aired between 1994 and 1996, is making a comeback on television. It will be a double treat for the viewers, as two major Hindi GECs, Viacom18’s Colors and Star India’s Life Ok, are set to bring different versions of this popular show on their respective channels.

The original ‘Chandrakanta’ was an adaptation of the popular novel of the same title. The version that will be aired on Colors is being produced by Balaji Teleflims and the one on Life OK is being produced by Nikhil Sinha.

While Colors has retained the original title ‘Chandrakanta’ for its show, Life Ok has renamed the show as ‘Prem Ya Paheli Chandrakanta’. Both the channels have released first teasers of the shows. Colors’ 10-second promo features random arrows being shot at a target. The channel has not revealed much about the show as it is in the development stage.

On the other hand, Life OK’s first look promo is 15 seconds long and features a woman, possibly princess Chandrakanta, overlooking her burning kingdom. The channel has not revealed the identity of the woman, showing only the back of the actress.

According to a source close to the channel, the show is being developed and the final cast is yet to be decided. The plan is to launch the show by the end of February 2017 or early March 2017. Sinha, the producer of the show, had earlier produced hit series ‘Siya Ke Ram’ for Star Plus.
